It might feel like the world will forever be closed down; there’s no “opting out” of the coronavirus pandemic.
The lockdown has made many people crave travel more than before. Even if you weren’t planning on taking a holiday to some far off distance, it feels more and more enticing the longer we’re stuck behind 4 very-familiar walls. Even if you can’t go on vacation though, there’s nothing holding you back from planning your next one.
If you can’t set foot outside your home for more than your daily neighborhood walk, let’s figure out some ways to plan your next travel adventure so you’ll be ready to jet set when the world opens back up.

- Talk to your family about places they’ve always wanted to go, then make a bucket list of the things you want to do when you visit those places.
- Learn a new language. If you want to go overseas, there is no time like the present to learn a new language. Try some free apps like Duolingo. If nothing else, get familiar with the way a language sounds and try to learn some basics to help get you around.
- Get your house prepped for security. Install a security light with motion sensor to reduce theft, and install a smart keyless entry. Reduce any potential theft threats by being proactive.
- Don’t buy tickets yet. While you might be excited to get out traveling again, don’t set the dates quite yet. If you are eager to buy inexpensive plane tickets, make sure to also get travel insurance in case plans fall through.
- Start exercising. Did you know the average person walks 8 miles in a big city each day when on vacation? Phew! When you consider all the places you’d like to visit, do many of them require much walking? If so, get those feet on the pavement and start walking! Aim to increase you daily steps every week, and in no time you’ll be hitting the same number of steps you will when you’re on vacation.
- Double-check what immunizations you and your family may need before going to specific countries. If they are different than what you currently have, make appointments to get those out of the way. Some clinics are continuing to operate during the COVID-19 crisis, but others may simply put you on the schedule for a couple of months from now.
- Research! While adventuring in the real world is very different than reading about it, there’s no reason for excuses to not know what is available in a country you’re looking to visit. Check out youtube and blogs to find some of the country’s spots to visit. You can also find information online about whether you will need a visa to enter the country. Also, look into the climate of various places, and don’t assume you know the climate.
- Check to see if places are offering deals for lodging. Some places are offering lodging discounts now for later date travels, which can be an excellent way to save money.
If you’re craving travel, it’s understandable. Whether your next trip lands you in Paris or Australia, or somewhere totally off the beaten path, there’s no time like the present to plan your next getaway.
