Our Half Term Meal At Las Iguanas, Watford

During half term, we always struggle to think of things to do. We’ve actually been quite busy this week for once – which is great but did mean we didn’t get to take a break away – and one thing we did this week was head to our local Las Iguanas in Watford for a family meal.

Did you know Las Iguanas are running a Kids Eat Free promotion for half term? (Each adult ordering a main course from the a la carte menu can claim a free kids meal from our Niños menu for an accompanying child during school holidays & other advertised Kids Eat Free promotions.) The kids meal includes a choice of main, two sides and a dessert.

Not only that but the brand are giving away a free toy or book with every kids meal. There are two new limited edition kids books to collect and the kids were lucky enough to receive one of them.

Upon arriving, we were seated and our drinks order was taken. We were all given menus and the kids menus are fab – plenty of things to colour in so the kids were given crayons too.

We ordered a few different things – Steve and I opted for a cheese fondue dish for starters and we also ordered the kids mains to come out with it as they can be quite slow eaters. Both kids chose macaroni cheese and peas with one opting for curly fries and the other for straight fries.

Both Steve and I tried the macaroni cheese the kids had and it tasted absolutely amazing – perhaps the best macaroni cheese I have ever eaten. I’m not sure what sort of cheese they use but oh my, was it good!

Steve and I took ever such a long while perusing our menus – there was just so much to choose from! Steve finally opted for the chicken burger with some added extras and I chose the chicken enchiladas – I’ve always been a big fan of enchiladas. My dish came with spring onion rice which was absolutely delicious and refried beans. The beans may not look the most attractive but they definitely added to the dish. The enchiladas were delicious too.

I almost didn’t have room for dessert but I just had to try the banana sticky toffee pudding. Steve had the Pornstar sundae (a dessert twist on the classic Martini cocktail), Jack had an ice cream cone and Olivia opted for fruit.

What did we think of our meal? First of all, I think the promotion is great. It can be all too expensive for the whole family to go out for a meal so anything that saves us some pennies is always a winner with me. There is a wide variety of dishes for children to choose which is great – so many places only offer two or three dishes – and they also don’t shy away from offering dishes with a little bit of spice for the children.

I mentioned that Steve and I struggled to choose our mains and this is because the menu is so extensive – there is plenty to choose from a variety of South American cuisines and something to suit everyone’s tastebuds.

The service we had was a great – the female server was kind and attentive and great with the kids and a man who we later found out was the manager was also kind, attentive and great when it came to the bill.

This was our first visit to Las Iguanas and we will certainly be back next time we are in Watford – it is a brand new discovery for us and one we would like to explore further.
