A little while back we started giving Jack some freedom off of his reins as he started to show real signs of independence. For weeks he walked by our side happily and carefully but he seems to have regressed recently and now constantly wants to run off. When given the chance to review an item from the Babythingz website, I bit the bullet and opted for the Goldberg Harness Buddy Toddler Reins. I figured that having a cuddly elephant on Jack’s back may help to keep him from running off. So how did I get on?
The Goldbug Harness Buddy Toddler Reins retail at £24.99 but at the time of publishing this post they are retailing at £19.99, a great saving of £5! Not only are they toddler reins but they are also handy little backpacks too! Whilst we chose the elephant (one of Jack’s favourite animals), there are a vast variety of other animals to choose from – these include cows, butterflies, dinosaurs and chimps. There are even fairies to choose from too!
Jack is fiercely independent right now and truly is developing a little personality. He loves nothing more than walking along with a backpack so this is really handy. He doesn’t feel as confined as he would with normal reins and believes he is still doing things independently whereas I can keep some element of control over his safety – the 3 foot tail ensures that. Any mother of a toddler will tell you that if they want to walk, they will want to walk and not go in the pushchair, no matter how far. Then they will want carrying. Fact of parenthood!
With adjustable straps and being machine washable, these reins are a parents dream come true. Jack loves his and always asks to wear them when he goes out now – complete with a myriad of toys in the backpack part too. He feels a sense of freedom yet knows that Mummy is there to keep him safe too. We’ve recently enjoyed some outings in the car or on the bus where we didn’t take a pushchair to use when we reached our destination. On the way home, Jack has snuggled up to the elephant so it also makes a handy cuddly toy when required – with toddlers, this can be very often! Those little bundles of energy sure can flake out at any given moment!
I’m very impressed with this item from the Babythingz website and have spotted a few other items that I like the look of. I was considering purchasing a similar item to this in the few days before I was given the opportunity to review and I’m so glad I opted for this. It is part of our day to day life now and I wouldn’t be without it now.
Happy mum, happy toddler.
