Improving your life doesn’t need grand gestures or large windfalls (though of course none of us would turn down a lottery win if the opportunity presented itself).
It’s been a hard 18 months for everyone, but by just making a few small changes, you can greatly increase your happiness levels.
We’re all busy, and self-improvement probably isn’t your number one priority. The kids need feeding, the bills need paying, and the dog needs walking. Then, before you know it, there’s hardly any time left for yourself!
Here are just five simple tips you can implement to help build a better you.
- Sleep Tight
A sleep shortage can make you grumpy and badly impact your productivity. But people often don’t realise that it can negatively affect your physical health as well.
Risks such as heart disease and diabetes are exacerbated by sleep loss – frightening when you think that 1 in 3 people suffer from poor sleep. Be sure to take the time to wind down at the end of the night so that you can help improve your sleeping patterns.
- Meal Plan
Cost-effective healthy eating can be difficult but carving out half an hour at the end of each week to plan out your meals will free up your time and money in the long run, eliminating the temptation to turn to junk food and takeaways.
Being properly prepared will mean that you have one less stress on your hands. And if you’re at a loss, try a service like Hello Fresh, who do all the hard work for you.

- Take a Break
Working from home has been great for our work/life balance.
Mostly.
The lack of commute means that we now have more time for ourselves, however, having our office at home means that we risk doing more work than we should.
Make sure that when you take your breaks, you do so away from your desk – that means no eating in the office! If your office is also your dining room table, try sitting in a different spot when you eat with the family.
- Smile More
Smiling has been proven to reduce stress and increase relax. It also has the wonderful side effect of putting others at ease.
If you’re self-conscious about your smile, then consider using clear braces like those provided by Portman Clear Brace Group. A straighter smile will boost your confidence and thus, make you happier!
- Exercise
80% of us don’t get enough exercise.
But whilst it’s established that movement is good for your physical health, it also has great benefits to your mental health too.
And a simple, low-maintenance daily workout routine will make you feel more productive and help reduce your stress.
Even a light stroll counts, so if you’re already walking the dog everyday then you’re doing great!
You don’t need to make big changes in your life to become a happier person. Even small adjustments can reduce your mountain of stress back into a manageable mole hill.
