5 Hacks for Your Child’s Closet

Your child’s closet offers plenty of space, but without some adjustments, you may not be making the most of it. Here are some hacks to help you get the most out of the space inside your child’s closet while helping them to become more independent:

Evaluate Their Clothing Often

Kids grow fast. It’s essential to evaluate the clothing in your child’s closet often. You may find items that they have outgrown or have worn holes in that are taking up valuable space in the closet. This is an excellent opportunity to donate these items to your favorite local charity and teach your kids the importance of giving back.

Place Additional Clothing Racks and Storage

There is a good chance that your child’s clothing, when hanging on their racks, only takes up a small amount of space. Closets were designed for adults and how long their clothing happens to be, but children’s clothing is much shorter. Take advantage of all of that space by adding more racks or other types of storage. Modular shelves can be helpful as you can adjust them as your child grows up.

Sort Clothing Into Designated Outfits

As a parent, picking out cute outfits is often a great pastime, but as your child gets older, they are going to want to put together their own style. You can organize their closet to make it easier for them to have designated outfits. They will be able to pick out an outfit and put it on themselves. This activity can be great for their self-esteem and independence. Once you start letting them pick out what they want to wear, it can be time to let them develop their own sense of style.

Add Shoe Cubbies For Storage

Not everything can be hung up, and that’s where shoe cubbies can come in handy. These cubbies are great for items, like shoes that you want to keep neat and together. You won’t have to worry about only having one shoe when you’re running late for school, thanks to using the cubbies. You’ll want to make sure that you make it a habit for your child to take off the item and put it back inside the cubby when they are done with it.

Use Hanging Organizers

Hanging organizers are a great tool. These organizers can work for a variety of items, such as socks and shoes. These usually hang on the back of the closet door. One very useful thing that parents can take advantage of is the height of the pockets. Let your children use the lower pockets the way they want, and store items you want to keep a certain way, such as special clothing up higher where they can’t reach.

These hacks should help you to maximize the space you have available for clothing and accessories. Putting them into action with your child’s help can be a special bonding time that helps get them ready to show off their own style.

We do try to differentiate between school, play and ‘going out’ clothes, but it’s not easy when the children get involved!

Lots of great ideas there, thank you. I love the hanging organisers, they are out the way on the back of the door, or unsightly if they are in the inner door of a wardrobe.
