A few years back, I put together a 30 before 30 list, a checklist of 30 things I wanted to do before I turned 30. This past Wednesday was my 30th birthday so I thought I had better check in and see how I got on…
Finish writing my novel and hopefully get it published. If not, I plan on self publishing.
Nope, this one didn’t happen although I am planning on self publishing some of my poetry.
Hopefully have another child or two. Will have to rely on nature for this one!
This happened! Olivia was born in January 2017.
Finish reading through my entire Agatha Christie collection. I have had some for almost 13 years, oops.
No, although I did get through a lot of them the other year.
Finally get round to meeting Sarah. It will happen, people!
This somehow still hasn’t happened!
Buy a house. This means a lot of work and a lot of saving.
No but we have got a deposit, are working to sort out our credit ratings and making sure we have the number of years needed of self employed records to go ahead. All systems go once these are sorted.
Completely clear any debt we have. Except for the mortgage if we buy a house.
No…we got close but then had some struggles so got back into it again. Chipping away at it though!
Finish re reading all of the Point Horror books.
Nope. Had a run of getting them in charity shops but can’t find them anywhere now and refuse to buy them off Amazon!
Get married. Because, you know, we’ve been engaged a while now.
Ha, no! Eight years engaged this year!
Visit Greenway, Agatha Christie’s home in Devon.
This hasn’t happened although I hope to visit Devon this year so might happen in my 30th year instead, haha!
Make plans to go on the Orient Express. Perhaps this could tie in with a wedding, it would be a lovely honeymoon!
This was very much a pipe dream, I think! Far too expensive sadly.
Visit Highgate Cemetery. It really intrigues me.
Haven’t yet got round to visiting!
Watch our complete DVD collection. We’ve got lots of DVD’s and quite a few haven’t yet been watched…
Haven’t managed these and we have also managed to declutter half of it too!
Watch Dexter from beginning to end. I never watched it all the way through but I really want to.
I have never got round of this – I’ve been watching so many other fab series along the way though!
Finally finish watching Desperate Housewives all of the way through. I’m currently stuck in the middle of season 2.
Is it bad to admit that I am still stuck in the middle of season 2???
Actually do something with my Youtube channel. I’ve made 3 videos so far but still not quite brave enough to be on camera.
I did this! I made quite a few videos. I’ve currently privated a few whilst I do a rejig but hope to continue with it in the future.
Visit the Harry Potter studios. I have no excuse, it isn’t as if they are that far from where I live.
Considering I live so close, I can’t believe I haven’t yet done this!
Go and see The Mousetrap, a play by Agatha Christie.
I will manage this but haven’t yet!!
Go to a book festival. Because I love all the books.
I managed this when I headed to Paris with Travel Supermarket. It was amazing.
See Derren Brown.
He hasn’t done that much in recent years so, no.
Ride in a hot air balloon.
I haven’t yet managed this either.
Watch every single film on a top 100 list – probably IMDB’s.
No, I didn’t even really get started on this one.
See the Northern Lights.
No…but fingers crossed I see them this year!
Go for afternoon tea with my Mum or best friend (or both!)
I’ve managed this – I went to Moggerhanger Park with my friend and I’ve visited my local tearooms with my Mum a couple of times now.
Write an article for a magazine or newspaper
Not for print – but do online publications count? I’ve written for Emma’s Diary, Families Online, Rattan Direct, Inspired Foster Care and a few others.
Host a dinner party
It wasn’t completely fancy like most but we had family round for a Chinese buffet, all cooked by Steve, a while back.
Attend at least 5 gigs.
Nope, nope, nope.
Visit the British Library
I haven’t managed this!
Start looking into my family tree again
I began looking a little bit but haven’t delved in properly.
Go to see a musical in the West End
There are so many shows I’d love to see but I haven’t ticked this one off yet.
Learn something new. Whether it is a new language or how to sew.. just something new.
Not sure about this – I’ve learned a lot about social media and stuff like that from my work as a virtual assistant – does that count?
As you can see, this 30 before 30 list was a major fail. I will be putting together a 40 before 40 list – hopefully with slightly more achievable goals. Do you have a list like this?
As I am now 30, why not check out Karalee’s 30 before 30 list?

What an awesome list – I never considered doing this for my 30th, but should have done! Before my 40th? I would totally make sure ‘sleep for longer than 6 hours’ is at the top of the list!
You can do it all, just extend it out age wise a little and enjoy! Did chuckle at meeting Derren Brown! Sim x
I really like the idea of this although 30 was a long way off.
Maybe I should look at it for my 40th!
I had to search Highgate Cemetery, as you’re mentioning it really intrigued me as well! A quick search lead me to discover that George Michael is buried there! I hope that you soon will be married, and that you will finally get your house!
You have such a good lists of goals for your 30th birthday. It’s fine if your not able to fulfill all of this before your 30th birthday as long as you continue to strive and making a way to fulfill your goals. Congrats for having a new baby and good luck for everything.
I don’t have a list but am thinking it might be interesting to create soon and revisit after reaching the milestone birthday. You must finish Dexter, it’s fantastic!
Glad to hear you’ve a deposit. It will be great when you get on the property ladder as you don’t waste money on rent. Fingers crossed for the Northern Lights this year x
This made me feel a lot better as I have not done half the things I said I would do by the time I hit 50! I thinks it’s important to have a list to aim at though as it gives you motivation!
Such a good idea, My 40th is coming next January so they would have to be realistic for me to achieve them by next January.
Thank you for sharing.
I don’t think it’s a major fail as you still managed to tick some bits off, and sometimes life gets in the way of booking things/ spending money on doing things all the time. But hope you had a great 30th! x
I have never made a list but the older I get I do think it would be a good idea to do
I have never made a list but I have always wanted to . You’ve done a lot ! Well
Done you 🙂
Definitely not a fail. I’ve never had a lost
Or wanted to make one . I just
Go with the flow 🙂
What an inspiring goal list to focus on and work at. This has inspired me to write my own. It seems like you did manage to make your way through the list. Our biggest struggle is keeping our debt down.
At least you have a list to work towards! I love desperate housewives you should finish it 🙂
Happy belated 30th birthday! I’d quite like to do a few of your list, perhaps I should do a 50 before 50 list!
Happy belated 30th, I definitely don’t think it was a complete fail and you have ticked off some pretty cool things on your list too AND had a baby!!! I turn 30 in a few months and had planned to create a list like this but didn’t even get around to creating the LIST! So you got further than me lol! xx
I do love lists like this, especially when you go back to see who well you got on completing the different things.
You put together some an incredible 30 before 30 lists and I am sure you will do all these things one day and well done on completing what you completed.
I do like these 30 before 30 lists. I completed a 30 before 30 travel challenge. I haven’t read point horror in years
I am glad to see someone else does this and set little goals (that sometimes look easier to achieve than they actually are!)
