3 Ways to Get Your Steps in When Working from Home

Over the last 12-months, the working world has changed dramatically, with many of us now working from the comfort of our own home. For many of us, this has led to us working from our home offices, kitchens, lounges, or even our bedrooms.

Working in the area you also live in can make it tricky to hit your step goals every single day. Read on to find out how you can achieve your recommended 10,000 steps a day, even when you’re working from home.

Pop out for a stroll

Fancy a nice coffee on your lunch break? In the mood to nip out for a bite to eat? Why not! Pop on your favourite trainers and take a saunter down to that lunch spot you love so much.

If you don’t want to buy a coffee or a bite to eat, why not make yourself some lunch on the go and go for a stroll whilst you enjoy it? This will help you to secure those all-important steps, whilst also saving you valuable funds.

But remember, if you are going to go out for a big walk at lunch or enjoy the summer sunshine after work by hitting up your local park, it is important to wear the right footwear. This includes proper walking socks! You don’t want your working afternoon to be burdened with blisters.

Pick up the pace

When we started working from home, life moved quite rapidly online. Of course, this meant lots and lots of video calls and phone calls to help our jobs run smoothly.

You might have noticed, particularly in co-working spaces or busy offices, that from time to time the odd person in the office takes to pacing around the office. Maybe they’re onto something. Why not pop on your headphones and grab your laptop whilst you pace around the house? Whilst this might not seem like many steps, these will quickly add up!

Make your binge-watch productive

When you’ve been working all day, it’s understandable that you would want to spend the rest of your day relaxing. Thankfully, this is where your favourite bingeable Netflix or Amazon show comes in!

Pop on your current favourite show and set aside the 40 minutes to an hour that you would have spent watching that, doing a bit of light exercise. This can be something as simple as walking on the spot, lunges, jogging on the spot, marching or doing side steps. This will help you to build up your daily steps, whilst still letting you enjoy the shows you love.

Get in your steps, even when you’re at home

Securing your 10,000 steps a day can be tricky at the best of times, especially if you have a desk job. This is why it is so important to find ways to improve your activity levels every single day.

Start by doing a little more each day. Whether that is walking, pacing around your office or jogging on the spot whilst you catch up on your favourite shows, you’ll manage to stay active and motivated whilst embracing the work from home life.

  1. Great tips and it’s true how everyone became a lot more stationary last year but even doing some walking on the spot exercises while watching a tv programme is a good way to get moving and you’re not so focused on the exercise at hand x

  2. Great ideas. I try and get in a walk in the morning if I can and then a walk in the evening.
