When working from home, it can be really difficult to get yourself completely in the mindset and make sure you have a productive day at work despite all the temptations and distractions. I’ve been working from home for almost three years now and I wouldn’t change it for the world but it has taken me a long time to find my groove and work out what works best for me. So how can you make working from home work for you?
BE INSPIRED
Whenever I sit down to work, I sometimes need that little boost of inspiration to get me going. On the wall behind my computer, I keep my Slimming World certificates (inspires me not to snack on rubbish things although that has slightly flown out the window being pregnant), my daily checklists, my blog goals and since this picture was taken I’ve also put up some pictures of various events I’ve attended or things I’ve done. This motivates me to strive to do better each and every day.
BE COMFORTABLE
Choosing the right furniture for your home office is a big thing, it is so important – you need to be comfortable otherwise it just won’t work. Some loose furniture would be the perfect choice – you’ll be comfortable and more willing to sit down and get that work done. There’s no point sitting there uncomfortable as it will only distract you.
MAKE GOOD DECISIONS
I mentioned above that the certificates on my inspiration wall usually keep me on the straight and narrow when it comes to snacking. If you really want to make working from home work for you and you like a snack, make sure to have plenty of fruit available to snack on, especially brain boosting or endorphin boosting fruit like blueberries or bananas. You’ll be thankful for the increased productivity and concentration levels.
BE ORGANISED
I will admit that I’m still not totally there – I’m not as organised as some – but you have to have some semblance of organisation in order to make working from home work for you. Whether you get organised digitally or another way, keeping organised is key to keeping you focused on your end goal.
These are my top tips for making working from home work for you. Did you have any more that you could suggest? If you work from home, what do you find that you struggle with?
