We always have so much to juggle, don’t we? From work to parenting to relationships to home life, it can be challenging to keep on top of everything, let alone free up any time to focus on ourselves. We know this, we understand this, yet we also know that everyone needs to take time for themselves. If we don’t do this, we end up burning out and then we are no good to anyone. That is why today we want to share with you some inspiration and suggestions of 3 things to do for you this year.
Catch up with friends
Why is it that when we are busy, it is usually time with our friends that we sacrifice? We still get the housework done and work late to hit those deadlines, and then our friendships suffer for it.
It’s understandable as your good friends will still be there for you, but wouldn’t it be great to spend more time with them?
Catching up with friends is good for us. Friends listen to us, they laugh with us and they make us feel better after just a quick cuppa. Make this the year that you set aside a little time every week to catch up with a friend. If you are struggling to find any time to do this, try combining it with something else, like a playdate with the kids or go along to a fitness class together.
Further your career
Could this be the year that you focus on your career. Perhaps you are currently in a role that you enjoy, maybe you are looking to get back into the workplace or you might be working for yourself, in all cases you might have a few ideas around furthering your career.
You could look to progress within your current company, so have a chat with your line manager about how you can go about that. You might want to take on extra development work and qualifications such as cfa coursework or in-house training, so find out what your options are.
If you are looking to get back into the workplace or build up your own business, start by setting yourself a few goals and thinking about what you would really love to do.
Take the time to relax
How often do you actually take the time to relax? There are always dozens of things that you could be doing, so it can be hard to just put everything aside now and then and relax.
There are a few things you can do as busy parents to free up some time, such as delegating tasks and shifting your priorities, and the key here is to see this as an important thing to do for yourself. You do need time to unwind and recharge, everyone does, so make time for it.
You might choose to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book for half an hour or perhaps you will sink into a hot bath? Just choose something that you know you enjoy and that will help you to switch off.
