I often get items sent to review and recently have found that a lot of my posts have been reviews but have also been fairly short as I can’t always find that many words to say about them – I go into whether they are good, bad, constructive criticism and similar but I don’t necessarily want my blog to be all review posts after review posts – I still want to be able to slot in my own personal posts within too.
After seeing other bloggers do the same, I’m now going to be doing a review roundup every month of some items I have been trying out for the blog. This first edition will actually be a combination of May and June as I have been so poorly recently. There is a mix of food, home, children’s and skincare – I hope you enjoy.
FOOD
Wyke Farms have recently become the first dairy in the UK to achieve triple Carbon Trust Standard for carbon, water and waste, saving 22 million kilos of waste! To celebrate this fab news, they recently sent me some of their products to try – a variety of their cheeses and two of their butters.
We have tried their cheese in the past – the milder ones – but it was nice to be able to sample the more mature cheese and also try out their butter. We much prefer butter to margarine but buy it and use it sparingly. As we had tried the cheese before, we knew we would probably like it and Jack and Steve have been enjoying multiple cheese sandwiches – I’ve also caught Jack sneaking to the fridge for a bit of cheese! The butter itself has proved very popular – making our mash extra tasty and being just as butter should be – I’m very impressed!
Bahlsen Choco Leibniz and Bahlsen PickUp! biscuits were always going to be a popular choice in this household. We were sent the whole ranges of the Choco Leibniz and the PickUp! and I have to say we were quite impressed. The Pick Ip! biscuits had recently introduced two new flavours – Black ‘n’ White and Dark Chocolate. I loved the dark chocolate but the other two much preferred the B&W which I wasn’t as keen on.
I never realised just how many different flavours of the Choco Leibniz there were! My favourites had to be the chocolate orange ones whilst Steve liked the caramel and Jack liked the white chocolate. I normally like white chocolate but found these ones a little too sickly however they were perfect for Jack.
I was also sent some of the brand new Butterkist to try – yogurt coated popcorn. These were delicious and a great snack and we were very disappointed when we run out as we all loved them so much – they were so handy when I was working at my desk and needed a quick snack to keep me going. These have already made it into our trolley in recent weeks and they definitely will again.
KIDS
Jack gets sent a lot of DVD’s to review via my blog and he was recently sent a couple more. Transformers: Robots In Disguise Rumble In The Jungle was released last month and Jack received it to give his thoughts on it. I actually think Daddy was just as excited to watch it!
Jack enjoyed the DVD but did find it a little scary in parts so I would perhaps advise letting older children watch this more than children of around Jack’s age. That being said, he enjoyed it and I am sure will enjoy it even more as he gets older.
Jack was also sent PJ Masks on DVD to review as well as some masks. Until he received this, we had actually never heard of the TV show and now it is everywhere. This DVD was asked for day after day after day – what little boy doesn’t love a programme all about superheroes and he has watched this many, many times since receiving it and it has now become one of his favourite programmes to watch on the TV too. I would definitely recommend and the masks make for great fun when his friends come round to play.
One Third Stories are a brand I’ve heard quite a bit about and Jack was recently sent their story starter so we could see what all the fuss was about. We were sent The Little Girl Who Lost Her Voice and this made for interesting reading. The stories start in English, introduce another language within and then finish in the other language which is great for developing your child’s language skills. Jack has actually been learning some different phrases at school recently so this was a very welcome addition to his bookshelf and he has had great fun learning different words. Jack loved that the story starter ended with the company asked what happens next and offering children the chance to win prizes with their ideas for what should happen next! Such a great way of getting children involved and interested in learning other languages.
MISCELLANEOUS
Finally something I have been waiting weeks for the chance to review and then weeks to actually review… Delph sun cream!
This factor 50 sun block lotion has been our lotion of choice this…summer, if that’s what you can call it so far. We’ve had some days where the rain has been pouring down and some where the sun has been blazing and Jack has been wearing this day in and day out to ensure he doesn’t burn. Unfortunately he takes after me and burns easily unlike his Daddy who turns a nice shade of brown.
After using this for quite a few weeks now, I must say I have no complaints. It claims to be water resistant and after some rigorous testing by Jack and his friends, we can attest to that. It has protected him well as far as I can see and is definitely a brand we will consider in the future.
So what did you think of my review roundup? I will definitely be continuing these on but would love to hear what you think?
