My 5 Favourite WordPress Plugins

After migrating to WordPress recently (with the lovely Emma’s help), I have loved playing around with everything and finding out new things about my blog. Having used self hosted WordPress for quite some time on Keene On Saving now, I knew about WordPress plugins but it is only recently that I have really looked into them and found a few that work for me.

Today I thought I would share with you my 5 favourite WordPress plugins, inspired by Single Mother Ahoy and You Baby Me Mummy.

my 5 favourite wordpress plugins

UpdraftPlus

Enabling me to make backups to places such as Google Drive and Dropbox, this plugin is a real life saver.

Evergreen Post Tweeter

This is a fairly new discovery but I really do love it. This posts out some archived posts but only those that I feel are relevant. I have set it to post out only certain categories from the last three months. It has been invaluable recently – my phone is broken so I am currently using an old brick for a phone and I am struggling to find time to get on the computer and tweet as well as everything else I need to do. Just knowing that there are posts going out and keeping my Twitter account active gives me peace of mind.

Editorial Calendar

Possibly my favourite plugin of all. I’ve tried it all before – a physical planner, a spreadsheet on Google Drive. These worked for a while and then I gave up with them. Having this plugin makes it so much easier to see what I have planned in for when and it is super easy to move things around if I need to.

Yoast SEO

Where would I be without this? I would love to be better at SEO but for now, this really does help me maximise the SEO potential of my blog posts.

Share Buttons by AddToAny

These are the best share buttons for my blog that I’ve found so far. They make sharing to social media super easy and I love them. They don’t look out of place on my posts either.

  1. I have heard of a few of these, but not Evergreen! Will be checking that out, as I am terrible with Twitter lately! Thank you! 🙂

  2. I don’t use WordPress but I’m thinking of changing over (just that it’s such a dauntingly massive job I don’t know where to start!) If I do I’ll definitely be looking into some of these plugins like yoast and evergreen

  3. The more I read about wordpress the more I think I should switch x

  4. Yoast has been a real education for me since I relaunched my blog and my web developer installed it. It helps me write in a much more direct way in my opening paragraph which is great for SEO!

  5. I have a couple of these. I must admit I don’t bother tweeting old posts because I’m worried about annoying people on twitter. I really like Comment Luv and have the paid for version.

  6. Will go and check these out as I haven’t heard of any of them x

  7. I am afraid to ditching WordPress as just didn’t feel it gave me as many options. I am with Blogger and love it. But I think it is definitely each to their own xx

  8. I’m with Angela on this! I’m on blogger as wordpress confuses me too much

  9. I am blogger but have always been intrigued by WordPress

  10. Blogger for me too. So simple, yet restrictive at the same time. I just don’t have time for WordPress though!

  11. Not heard of evergreen – I use twuffer to schedule my posts but thats not a plug in

  12. I am on blogger but I keep hearing about all of these fantastic and really helpful plugins on wordpress and I am pondering whether I should make the move!? x

  13. I’m with Blogger and feel like I’m missing out on all these super plugins. Nothing ever seems to change on Blogger!

  14. I’m a fan of jetpack, but Evergreen sounds like something I definitely need to check out.

  15. Some great plug-ins there, I’m definitely a fan of Yeost and Evergreen. Also use Buffer too which is brilliant 🙂

  16. Those plug-ins sound amazing, especially the Evergreen Post Tweeter and the Editorial Calendar – I’m going to install them right now! I’m also a huge fan of Yoast – it makes it so easy so see the areas I need to improve 🙂
