We were sent the Anki OVERDRIVE for consideration of a review. All thoughts and opinions are our own.
We are very lucky to be sent a variety of items for consideration of a review on this site. But a lot of the time I find myself watching on and taking the pictures whilst Steve has all the fun with the kids getting to try out the toys, sample the foods etc.
When we were sent the Anki OVERDRIVE Starter Kit, I was excited to give it a go myself alongside the whole family. We took it round to Steve’s parents so everyone could have a go if they wanted. All you need to do is download the app to get started.
Anki OVERDRIVE is a ground breaking battle race experience where players can control the physical supercars via a handheld device such as a smartphone or a tablet. You can then compete against friends, family or AI (Artificial Intelligence) commanders. Your car even learns the track and as you become better at playing the game, the better your car becomes and you can level up too!
Bringing together cutting edge technology and toys/video games, this is perfect for both parents and kids alike and anyone can enjoy it. It is generally popular with young boys between 8 and 12 years of age but is suitable for men and women, girls and boys, young and old alike. Jack is aged 5 and loves playing it, Steve is 30 and loves it too. Even Steve’s parents, brother and cousins think its great and Olivia is quite excited by the cars racing around the track. The tracks are known as ‘FlexTracks’ and they easily snap together as they have magnetic connectors. Steve remarked that it was probably the easiest track he had ever put together! This means that players can create customised battlefields quickly and it is easy to pack away too!
We loved playing this – the only thing I would perhaps mention is that playing it can cause your phone battery to deplete quite quickly so having a charger nearby would be quite handy. The set up is super easy – download the app, sign up your child with your email, validate their profile, charge your cars on the included charging port then put them on the track. First of all they will do a scan and learn the track before setting off for a race (you can see more of what I mean in our YouTube video below). Steve was very happy playing on it for ages as was Jack and I loved having a go too! This really is a toy for everyone and allows you to spend some family time together playing a super fun game!
The Anki OVERDRIVE starter kit is available for £149.99 which I think is a very reasonable price for the product – you’re getting cutting edge technology, an easy to put together and put away track and hours of fun with your friends and family, no matter what your age is. This will certainly be on many children’s Christmas lists – and perhaps even some Mum’s and Dad’s too!
