More of us than ever before are working from home. In the UK it’s thought that around 4 million people are working from home at least some of the time and it’s been predicted that up to half of the workforce will do so by 2020. If you blog, work as a freelancer or run another small business, you might spend most of your working life at home. Perhaps occasionally going out for meetings, utilising co-working spaces or working in coffee shops for a change of scenery.
Working from home can be fantastic. One of the main benefits is flexibility. This flexibility means that we’re not stuck to working inside like we could be if we had a 9-5 office job. We could work outside, at least some of the time when the weather allows us to. But so few of us do. We work in home offices or on the sofa. If you never work outdoors, either in your garden or at an outside public space, here are just some of the reasons that you should.
It’s Relaxing
Gardens can be incredibly relaxing. Especially if you’ve got a pond with running water, with supplies from https://www.swelluk.com/pond/pond-liners-54/. You might think that your garden can only be relaxing when you’re lying on a comfortable chair with a cold drink, a good book and nothing to do. But, that’s not true. Even working outside can be much less stressful than working indoors. It can feel refreshing and soothing, even if you are doing exactly the same as you would be inside. Working outdoors can also ease your stress levels by boosting your energy levels and helping you to feel more alert and focused.
Do you ever struggle with creative block? When you hit a wall, and your mind just runs out of ideas? Most of us do at some time or another, and it’s certainly not exclusive to writers.
When this happens, getting outside can be a massive creativity boost. Let nature and the colours and smells that surround you inspire you. Even if you don’t want to work outdoors, just going out for a short walk during your working day can improve your creativity.
You’ll Get More Exercise
Sitting at a desk all day isn’t good for you. You don’t burn enough calories or exercise your muscles. Head outdoors, and you are bound to get more exercise. Even if it’s just walking out, finding a spot and heading back at the end of the day.
It’s also much better for your posture. Desk chairs force your back and joints into a rigid position, and you might find that you slouch to compensate. Your desk setup might also be hurting your wrists, eyes, and neck. Getting outdoors and sitting in a different position sometimes will improve your posture.
It Changes Your Routine
Doing the same thing all day, every day is boring. It never results in your best work and might make you unhappy. Getting outside changes your routine. It makes your days different, and it can improve your mood.
So, make sure your battery is fully charged, and you’ve got a shady area so that you can see your screen and head outside with whatever tools you need to do your job. Even working outside for an hour or so when the weather is good can make a massive difference to your working life.
