Why Biohacking Matters for Small Businesses

Chances are, you’re trying to do anything and everything you can to make your business more professional, right? Now, it can definitely be agreed that running a small business can feel like you’re sprinting a marathon. There’s always something demanding your attention, and somehow, the to-do list never seems to shrink.

Chances are, all of this sounds familiar? Right? Well, the grind is real, and so is the burnout. But that’s why biohacking is getting bigger. Now, you might have heard about this on hustle-culture articles, Forbes, someone bragging about it on LinkedIn, or somewhere else online.

But believe it or not, biohacking isn’t just a buzzword, rather, it’s about making small, science-backed changes to boost energy, focus, and performance. For small businesses, it’s not about working harder; it’s about working smarter. But how can biohacking even help?

What is Biohacking?

Biohacking might sound like something out of a sci-fi movie, but it’s surprisingly straightforward. So, basically, at its core, biohacking is all about using science and self-experimentation to optimise how your body and mind perform. Some people swear by gadgets like a sleep tracker, others swear by supplements (so it varies for everyone).

But overall, biohacking can be as simple as tweaking your diet, improving your sleep habits, or adjusting your workspace to maximise productivity. To sum it all up, it’s about small, intentional changes. Now, all of this would benefit a business, right?

How Science Supports Biohacking in Business

So a good chunk of biohacking is going to be DIY, so it’s up to the person to change their lifestyle and choices. Actually, some of the most interesting breakthroughs come straight from the lab. For the most part, science has always supported biohacking, well, healthier lifestyle choices in general.

There’s even a lot of research labs that buy from Science.bio so more research and development can happen with biohacking, such as nootropics for example (outside of caffeine). So this is just an example, but even this just shows that biohacking has technically always been around and chances are high it’s not going to go anywhere.

How Can Small Businesses Incorporate Practical Biohacking?

Well, it’s up to each individual, so an entire business can’t really enforce how their staff lives (only encouragement at most). The beauty of biohacking is that it doesn’t require a high-tech lab or fancy gadgets. It’s the simple stuff that makes a big impact. Actually, just go ahead and take energy, for example.

Instead of running on caffeine fumes and praying for a second wind, why not fuel your brain the right way? How? Well, you just need to swap out sugary snacks and go for brain-boosting foods like nuts, avocados, or dark chocolate. But of course there’s the more bare-bones ones like hydration.

Then, there’s your workspace (or your office where your staff works as well). So this is something that businesses can actually control. Essentially, stale air and harsh fluorescent lighting don’t exactly scream productivity, but naturally lit spaces tend to (same goes for comfortable furniture). So, you probably knew about a lot of these already, but yeah, all of these relate to biohacking.
