Steve and I have been together for a long time now – 11 years, in fact (with 8 of those engaged!). When we first got together, he wasn’t that into gaming. He used to be but working the hours he did, he just had no time for it. However once we moved in together it was clear to see that I was dating a gamer and that I had to accept the games console as well, haha!
Over the years, he’s been through console after console, sitting up late anticipating the next release. Just recently he was sat waiting to find out the news about the two big consoles coming out so he could make his decision as to which one he wanted! Now I’m not that into gaming myself – I enjoy the odd game here and there – but I don’t play regularly unlike Steve. He has many friends, both male and female, who do though! Some of them are currently single and looking to find love – some even asking us to set them up with our female friends, especially if they are gamer girls!
Gaming often gets a bad rep but did you know that sometimes it can actually be good for you? Studies have even shown that it can build relationship skills! With that in mind, why wouldn’t you want to join a geek dating app and meet some likeminded people who share your interests.

I can’t lie and say that dating a gamer has always been easy – generally Steve is quite good and won’t spend hours on end playing – especially if we have plans as a family. Sometimes it can get a little frustrating though when I want to go and do something or watch something on the TV and he’s using it! That’s why it is great when we have time to game together and find a game that actually interests both of us. We have a number of different consoles in the house and a variety of games, many which are family friendly so all of us can get involved.
Sometimes it can even get quite competitive with us playing multiplayer games and seeing who can beat the other. One of my best memories is staying up late when the kids were in bed playing one of Jack’s Mario Party games for the Nintendo Switch and really trying to outdo the other one. I think we ended up doing best to 10 because neither of us wanted to take the loss when the other got ahead.
Dating a gamer can be a whole lot of fun as long as you show some interest too – you don’t need to play regularly unlike them but just as they would show an interest in things you like to do, you should show interest in theirs. It’s even better if you are a gamer too as that gives you plenty to do and plenty to talk about.
Dating a gamer has, for me, been a mostly positive experience and he has now given his love of gaming to the kids too. Do you date or have you ever dated a gamer?

My husband was a gamer when I met him but I had to change him otherwise we would never have left the house!
My late partner Jayne used to enjoy the occasional game. She was annoyingly good and would usually beat me! I do still enjoy gaming but it’s very much an occasional thing now. That’s partly because I work on a computer and worry how healthy it would be to spend yet more hours staring at a screen.
My boyfriend loves playing games, I only like playing ones I know I can beat him at!
