You may have noticed that there hasn’t been a Wedding Planning Wednesday post for a few weeks and the reason for that is I just didn’t know what to say. I originally started this series as a means of documenting my journey from fiancee to bride but it is glaringly obvious from previous posts that we have hit a few snags along the way. Add into the mix the fact that I have recently left my job and you can imagine how swamped and stressed I have been which makes a weekly series more of a chore. However, now I am at home full time I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and what better time to start than right now?
Obviously there is now only one steady income coming into the house (I am currently setting up working from home; however I am having some time off before doing so!), this does mean money is still as tight as ever but I am hoping the huge reminder in the picture above will help me to put any spare pennies away for our special day. I have also started budgeting better (needs must!) and currently split things into three different places: my main current account for bills & other outgoings (this is where all money comes in), my secondary current account for any survey/mystery shopping/market research payments via Paypal and then my savings account where all cash from my secondary account, a little from my main account plus numerous piggy banks around the house goes. I am hoping that this huge money box will help me remember to save a little more rather than frittering away that £2 coin on a magazine I will barely read or junk that I shouldn’t be eating anyway. It is quite deep so I am hoping I can fit quite a bit into it!
How did you save or how are you saving for your wedding?

I think I posted here once about saving for my wedding, by doing it in Mexico! But it still ain't cheap, gotta start planning for that. Eventually.
So much hard work!
Why not to try Dont tell the Bride?!)
I wouldn't want to showcase my life on tv unfortunately 🙁 My niece applied and also heard bad things about it x
I can tell you more how i saved money in the actual wedding planning bit than the pre-saving part as we were lucky enough to ge ta lump sum from my parents.
I have so far made my own invitations and jewellery for myself and bridesmaids.
My bridesmaids dresses were half price in the bhs sale, one has a bead missing so got an extra 10% off
Bridesmaids have cardigans from the monsoon sale for £13.50 each instead of £45 each.
Bridesmaids got their own shoes in the debenhams sale.
My shoes are from the debenhams sale.
My dress got a 'first visit discount' if you see 'the one' dont go away and think about it, also the sale dresses are often really good discounts!
I am making my own table plan and favours – bulk bought tea light holders and clear stickers to print onto.
the hitched.co.uk forum is invaluble for money saving tips and i wish i hadnt booked everything before i joined!

Good luck!! Xxx
Thanks Emily x
Once bills and living costs were paid – all spare pennies went straight into savings account. We set a budget which we knew we wouldnt be able to reach in time so we unfortunately got a small bank loan for the rest. But it was low interest so not so bad! plus…
I DIY'd EVERYTHING! I mean everything. Food was from costco and home made. dress from ebay. then asked for money as gifts! Good luck!
That is currently what we are doing 🙂 x
A chunk of our wedding (venue, photographer and cake) is being paid for by my inheritance from my parents. Everything else we are buying a little at a time. Our wedding is to be quite small, nothing fancy or 'princess' like. Plus with having it near Christmas we're saving on decorations (already decorated!) and we're not having a disco or buffet after.
I've researched and googled everything to make sure that we're getting good prices on everything.

I'm selling a load of stuff in order to buy things in little amounts – making money and clearing space!
good luck with the savings 🙂
We were very lucky with our Wedding, our Mortgage payments went down by £300 a month when the interest rate dropped, that quickly adds up! x
Thanks hun x
Awwww, good luck with the saving sweetie. I know how hard it can be. We are getting married on one wage too. Xx

So tough!
Ooooh, good luck with saving! I definitely feel in the same boat. My saving is going quite well, and I'm spreadsheet'ed out until October next year, by which point, I should have about 6K saved, bare minimum. I'm saving by doing meal plans to the tune of £20 a week, breaking my budget down on the spreadsheet and having ~£200 spending for four months (birthdays, socialising), and then listing the rest of my income/outgoing. If you make the spreadsheet before wages, and then add in the wages as they come it's quite effective.
I'm also doing a lot of handmade stuff such as making my own save the dates & stationary (see blog) and calling in all favours (Chris is a vintage car mechanic, etc).
It's so difficult to do without help from either family, though!

You are so organised!
I think that is a great idea! Weddings can be expensive. Once you get engaged, there are so many things to attend to and so many bills to be paid. It would really be best to have some kind of a saving plan like the one you've thought about. This is going to be effective.
