This year is the year we are getting stuff done around the house. Granted, the year has got off to a bit of a slow start with my hospitalisation and c-section leading to the arrival of Charlie in early January. However we have lived here for over two years now and brought two new babies home and feel like we have got nowhere when it comes to doing it up – even though we have got lots done!
Jack’s bedroom is slowly turning into the teen boy haven he wants it to be and the garden is slowly but surely shaping up – most jobs cannot be done until late Spring/early Summer now. But where are we looking to update next?
Now I don’t know about you but I think you definitely need to be happy with your kitchen. Whilst mine is a decent size and eventually we potentially plan on knocking through to the dining room and having a kitchen diner, it just isn’t ‘me’. There are so many things I would like to do to update it and make it more us than what it currently is.
The first thing I want to do is change up the cupboards a little. They are a little plain and boring and whilst I might actually keep the doors the same, I am considering some new cupboard handles for kitchen to bring them more up to date. Sometimes I find just changing the smallest of details can make such a big difference – and seem like you have done so much more.
Something I have also considered is updating the drawers and instead having these drawer boxes which look much better and are much more practical, storing so much more. The drawers we currently have are woefully shallow despite being quite large and I would certainly appreciate more storage in my kitchen – wouldn’t we all?
The last thing I’d like to do which is perhaps a little more tricky is to move the sink. Every other property I’ve lived in has had the sink by the window, allowing me to look out on the garden when doing such menial tasks as washing or drying up. My sink here is further along and I’d love to be able to look out during the day and watch the birds in the garden. I’m not a plumber however so would need to look into how achievable this actually is!
These are just a few ways we are planning on updating our kitchen this year. I can’t wait to finally live in our ‘home’ rather than just our house – the last few years have been busy and chaotic with so so much going on and it will be nice to finally get these jobs ticked off of our lists and actually be able to enjoy some time at home without mentally listing all the other things that need doing!
What renovations are you looking to carry out around your home this year? What job will you be ticking off of your list first?
