How to Travel in Style… And on a Budget

Travelling in style is rarely cheap. A designer suitcase is beautifully made and eminently practical, but unless you make a habit of frequenting First Class airport lounges, you may not want to spend so much money. Luckily there are ways to stay stylish but not blow the budget completely – and here’s how.

Choose the Right Luggage

If style matters to you, luggage is very important. A Charles Ford London Briggs and Riley suitcase might be a bit more expensive than a cheap one from the local discount store, but you get what you pay for. Quality luggage costs more upfront, but it will save you in the long-run by lasting for many years.

If you can’t afford to buy a full-size suitcase, look at rolling luggage options instead. Rolling luggage is super stylish and extremely practical. Many rolling luggage items are small enough to be taken on board an airplane as hand-luggage, so you will save loads of time in the airport. Thanks to handy wheels and a telescopic handle, rolling luggage just trundles along behind you as you saunter through the departure lounge looking cool as a cucumber.

Last Minute Travel

A useful trick for saving money on travel (which means you have more to spend on better quality accommodation and fun sightseeing trips), is to book travel at the last minute. There are often great deals to be had closer to the date of travel. Hotels in particular try to offload any empty rooms at a discount prices, so you could end up staying in a 5* hotel but at 2* prices.

Travelling during off-season or mid-week is another way to save money on travel to stylish locations. Families are often restricted to travel during school holidays, so operators put the prices up accordingly. If you are willing to be flexible with your dates, you should find some great bargains.

Book Travel Using Loyalty Points

If you are a frequent flier, whether for business or pleasure, you have probably accrued significant numbers of air miles and hotel loyalty points. Use this to your advantage and upgrade flights to business class or splurge on an upmarket hotel room for free.

Dress Stylishly

It might be tempting to throw on some comfy leggings and an old sweatshirt for a long haul flight, but your style credibility will be shot down in flames the moment you set foot in the departure lounge.

Instead, wear something fashionable, preferably accessorised with a pair of dark designer shades for maximum cool factor. You can swap into a more comfortable outfit once you board the plane. There is little point in taking lots of clothes, either. Instead, take a half-empty suitcase and fill it with gorgeous and ultra-cheap clothes from local markets and boutiques.

Travelling on a budget stylishly is not an impossible dream. You just have to be sensible and spend your hard-earned cash on the right things. Save up carefully and try and do as much as you can for free, and have fun!
