Top Tips To Stay Safe When Travelling

Collaborative Post

Staying safe when travelling is of the utmost importance. Whether you are travelling alone or with people, nothing should come above safety. Here are some top tips to stay safe when travelling.

Do Your Research

Perhaps a very obvious tip but one that I feel the need to reiterate nonetheless. It is so important to do your research when it comes to travelling. Know where you are going (or at least a rough idea), have an itinerary, read reviews and find out more about the destinations you are going to. You should also know the emergency numbers for the places you are going and if going abroad, where your Embassy is and how you can contact them.

It is wise to take out travel insurance, that covers the county that you intend travelling to. For example, if you intend touring Northern Ireland, you will NI travel insurance. This is available from InsuranceQuotesNI who specialise in NI travel and holiday insurance.

It is also a good idea to research common travel scams so you are more aware if someone does try to pull one on you. The more you know, the better equipped you are to deal with any eventuality.

Carry An Alarm

If you are travelling alone, an alarm is a must. An Ashley Personal Safety Alarm is an inexpensive personal safety alarm designed to deter any attackers and make those carrying it feel safe and secure.

It is also worth keeping your friends and family updated on your location to ensure maximum safety and that you can easily be located in the case of an emergency.

Be Aware

So many people get so caught up in the thrill of travelling that they forget to stay aware of their surroundings. Many destinations have people to prey on tourists as they see them as easy pickings – they are easily distracted and thus easier to rob or con. I was once in a beach town on the South coast of England and heard a man on his phone telling his accomplice what certain people were wearing or what accessories they had. I heard him mention my distinctive handbag as he wasn’t quite quiet enough and he mentioned the top my friend was wearing – we then changed the way we were walking and kept aware of what was going on around us. I know that if we hadn’t heard, his accomplice would have soon been near us, trying to grab our phones or purses out of our bags and pockets.

Have Copies Of Documentation

Ensure you have copies of important documentation kept separate to the actual documentation. That way if you lose something, you will have the copies to make it easier to get a new one or to get home if needs be.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

So many people choose not to get this but it is very important. If you get sick or injured whilst on holiday, travel insurance covers you. Something goes wrong at your accommodation? Travel insurance will probably cover you. Make sure you get a policy with decent coverage that covers you for any eventuality – and just hope that you don’t need to make a claim.
