Since we found out we had to move, I have been doing a lot of decluttering. There was so much that needed to go so some of it went to charity shops but I spent a lot of time selling stuff too. I haven’t finished and have still got plenty of stuff to go up on Vinted, eBay and similar sites. I wanted to share with you my top tips for decluttering and selling.
Only Sell What Will Make Money
If something has rips and tears, it makes more sense to throw it away. The only reason why you would potentially sell something damaged online is either for spares and repairs or if it is really collectable and someone is willing to restore it.
Take the time to work out what will sell.
Consider Selling In Lots
Some people may want to buy a few of your items at once and will contact you and see if you can give them a deal. If they are buying a large amount of stuff, then you might want to consider it as it helps you to declutter whilst also earning a decent amount of money.
Price It Right
Don’t be too greedy – people are looking for a bargain on these sites. Obviously you will want to make money but pricing your items too high means they won’t sell. Make sure to include shipping costs in the price too so you aren’t losing out on any money.
Pack It Well
I like to use bespoke packaging – I send out a lot of parcels for my work anyway so I always have packaging materials on hand. I just think packing it well and in unique packaging shows a little more care and attention and means the customer is more likely to leave a positive review which is what you want – it means you’re more likely to sell more stuff!

Sell Seasonally
If you don’t need to declutter in a rush, consider selling seasonally. Halloween costumes will do well in the months leading up to the event, summer clothes will often sell well in the spring in preparation for the sunny days, Christmas stuff always goes well in the few months leading up to it.
Arrange Pickup
It can be terribly inconvenient to have to go to the Post Office or parcel drop off multiple times a day or a week. Royal Mail and some delivery companies actually pick up from your address now if you book it in so why not take advantage of this? It means you can stay at home and list even more stuff!
These are just a few top tips for decluttering your home and selling them online. I go through fits and starts of doing this but I always find it super rewarding. Many of my friends are consistently selling their old stuff online and they make a fair amount of money from it too!
Do you sell your old stuff online? Do you have any top tips you would like to share?

I am all for unique packaging – always makes me smile when I receive post in lovely packaging or with treats I wasn’t expecting! You’ve spurred me on to try Vinted, I have so much I need to get rid of that I’m considering a skip! :/ Hope it is all going well! Sim
Selling seasonally is a good idea. I need to look at toys we don’t need and get rid of them before Christmas.
Great tips here, I have a few things I need to look at selling that C has sorted out. I agree if it is damaged just throw it, so much easier and less hassle
These are great tips. I did sell a lot of our pre-loved stuff online when we moved house. I did not plan it so well, because I wanted to get rid of them ASAP. Next time I do a decluttering, I am going to follow your tips.
These are great tips! I never sold anything when moving, because I had mostly craft supplies that were in such condition that they were at best good enough for the thrift store. I’ve also never planned a move very far in advance either, so it’s not like I had a lot of time to plan my decluttering.
Oh yes, god tips here. t is amazing what money you can make from selling online. It always surprises me the things that do sell well too.
