Top Tips When Buying A House

Collaborative Post

2017 may finally be the year we get round to buying a house – who knows? We’ve been paying down our debt and saving up and due to other circumstances may finally be in a position to buy. But what exactly are we looking for when buying a house? We’ve been looking at different properties to buy in our area, looking at what people are selling. A couple recently have nearly met all our requirements but nothing has ticked all the boxes yet.

Here are our tips for buying the perfect house for you:

Work Out What It Is You Require

Right now we will soon be needing a 3 bedroom property – we are currently in a 2 bedroom property. We live in a house with a tiny kitchen so would ideally be looking for something bigger, we also need office space for me and plenty of storage space. By checking the specs of each property we look at, we won’t waste time visiting properties that just aren’t going to be right for us.

Set A Maximum Price

If you know roughly what budget you have, set a  maximum price around that budget. Sometimes you will be prepared to go slightly over your proposed budget and you don’t want to lose out on the property of your dreams by not being prepared.

Check The Area

What is the area like for crime, schools, council issues? If you have children like we do, schooling is a major factor when it comes to moving. We want to stay in the village so Jack can still attend the same school but property prices are quite extortionate – the odd gem does pop up though! Knowing what to expect from your area won’t lead to any nasty surprises further on down the line.

Be Prepared To Have A Fight On Your Hands

This is where setting a maximum price comes into play. You have found the perfect property and have put in an offer – unfortunately so have a few other people. Everyone keeps raising their offers so that they will be the ones to finally seal the deal – know your limits but don’t let the perfect property go without a fight, you will only regret it.

What top tips have you got for buying? Have you bought your perfect property yet?
