As a travel lover, I am really missing being able to travel this year especially as we travelled so much in 2019. Like many people, I’ve been stuck at home thinking about where I’d like to go when this is all over and that has been helping me to get through it all! I’ve got a few places on my list but somewhere I’ve always said I’d love to visit is Australia. I’m an eighth Australian as my great-grandfather was Australian and moved over here, marrying my English great-grandmother. I’d love to see where some of my family came from.
He came from Melbourne so if we were to visit, this is the place I’d want to visit first. I’ve been researching to see what the best things to do as a family are in the city and here are my top days out in Melbourne for kids.
Melbourne Zoo
This attraction has a large variety of animals and is massive. Perfect if you are looking for something to do for the whole day – and even then, you may not be able to fit it all in! Whether your kids love the lions, the elephants or another animal entirely, they are bound to have fun!

SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium
I love visiting the SEA LIFE centres in the UK so I’d love to see how the aquarium in Melbourne is different. With plenty of fish, stingrays and other underwater creatures, kids will be enamoured. My particular favourite in the UK are the penguins and I’d love to see them in Melbourne too. Legoland Discovery Centre Melbourne
Another thing we have in the UK that I’d love to visit in Australia to see the difference! This is Australia’s first Legoland Discovery Centre and has plenty for the kids to see and do! There are 13 family attractions and activities including a 4D cinema, Kingdom Quest laser ride, Merlin’s Apprentice ride, LEGO City Soft Play Zone and so much more! NGV International
If your children appreciate art, then this is a must visit. There’s classic art, contemporary installations and so much more. Free to enter, there is the potential to spend hours here as a family, seeing everything it has to offer. Plus don’t forget the gift shop at the end of your visit!
Melbourne has plenty to offer families, whether they are local or visiting from elsewhere. These are just some of the fabulous places available for children! Where would you visit first?
I would love to visit Melbourne one day, it sounds like there is so much to see and do for families.
My niece studied in Australia and loved it there, though in the end she decided to return to the UK to be back with her family. It sounds a wonderful place to visit, and Melbourne clearly has some enticing attractions for families. I have been to various Sea Life Centres in the UK as well and would love to see the Melbourne one.
