Our routine is always a bit haywire but this #Afterschoolchefs campaign gave us the opportunity to try and regain some sense of routine. With Jack about to start nursery and a partner working odd shifts, dinner time can often be a stressful occasion with whoever is cooking juggling a variety of different meals. Something we can all agree on though is things like pies, chicken etc so we always make sure to stock up on these.
When given £20 worth of Birdseye vouchers to complete this challenge, we made a list of things we wanted to buy and those featured in the picture aren’t even all that we bought – we happened to visit the supermarket when a lot of the Birdseye items seemed to be on offer so did well in filling up our freezer for an affordable amount.
I am not the greatest cook, anyone will tell you that and if Steve is at home, he usually does the cooking. However, I love Birdseye because they make everything so simple – and it all tastes delicious too! We like to make sure that Jack doesn;t get into a routine of chicken dippers, fish fingers and similar foods so it is nice to see Birdseye pies too – something we know he will eat and that is a little different from the norm for Birdseye.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been having a selection of meals together and Jack has been helping me with the process, detailing exactly what each meal should have. I obviously then do the grown up parts and put things in/take things out of the microwave but he has been having the final say and we have had some tasty concoctions – pie, mash and peas and chicken chargrills in burger buns have been recent favourites. However Jack’s favourite will always seem to be a simple chicken dippers with chips and some ketchup – plus whatever veg is currently his favourite (right now, sweetcorn!).
We love Birdseye products in our house as they give us such a range of ideas. What would you suggest for an after school dinner?

Dinner at yours then? I don't care how old I get you can't beat a Birdseye dinner haha! x
