A lot of people take a rather dim view on spending a lot of time and effort on a wedding day. “It’s one day and then it’s gone,” they will profess, but the memory can last a lot longer and be a lot stronger than it. It can be even more powerful if you take the time to ensure you have the right souvenirs and ways to remember your wedding. For that reason, we’re looking at some of the best ways to ensure you can keep looking back fondly on your wedding for years to come.
Take photos with a difference
Everyone who gets married has a wedding album and, while they might hold a special place in their heart, rarely do they get as much attention as they deserve. When you have your wedding photos taken, consider using photographers who are known for more creative or outlandish options, such as making use of local landscapes aside from the wedding venue itself. You should also consider having a photo wall gallery made from some of the best snaps of the wedding, to have pride of place on one of the walls of the home, so that your memories aren’t simply pushed under the bed or put away in the wardrobe for years until you remember where they are and fish them out.
Upload some of your favourite footage
Photos can allow you to stage the perfect, ideal image of your wedding but a lot of people will admit that they don’t quite truly capture the spirit of the day. With all the posing you need to do, it won’t transport you back to how it actually felt to say those two magical words or to celebrate the occasion with all of your friends and family. To that end, the work a wedding videographer can do is a lot different. Not only do they provide a multisensory experience of both visuals and sounds that can be much more evocative of your memories, but they can create montages of events throughout the night to help you revisit it all. You can upload those videos to social media or YouTube to share with friends or revisit from any location or device as and when you please, too.
Take a favour home with you
One trend that has been on the rise, recently, is that of the wedding favour. People are finding fun and unique gifts that their guests can take home with them. Sometimes edible, sometimes something that can be displayed in the home, often something heartfelt and thoughtful, like a lucky antique penny. Whatever your wedding favour is, make sure that save enough for you to take home with you or to share with those who couldn’t make it as well. That way, not only do you get to preserve the memory for yourself, but you can share it with those who mean most to you, too.
Choose some memorable entertainment
The wedding itself is going to be so spectacular that you and your guests are sure to remember it. However, for most of the night, you are going to be the centre of attention and it can be quite nice to have shared memories with guests where you, like them, are a spectator rather than the main attraction. As such, choosing some great and memorable entertainment, whether it be a musician or band, a catering display, or even something like a magic show or comedy act can help you create memories that you share more directly with the people you invited to share it with you.
Save a recipe from the wedding
If there’s a certain meal or dessert you had for the wedding that you love, in particular, then you can get in touch with the caterer and ask that they share the recipe with you. You might not be able to cook it quite as finely as a professional chef, but you should hopefully be able to capture the taste enough to evoke those memories. Or you can choose a caterer with a restaurant, and visit them every time your anniversary comes around. Scent and taste are some of the senses more strongly linked to our memory, so being able to summon them up at will can really transport you back to your big day.
The memories of your wedding are not likely to fade for a very long time, indeed. However, with the right touches, you can make them all the more potent, like a photobook in your mind.
