Creditplus are a UK based car finance company that focuses on ethical lending and empowering customers with the information they need to make the finance choice that is right for them. Recent research showed that a large proportion of their customers were families. In a bid to find out more about what families want from cars, they asked me about my own driving experiences.
1) When you became pregnant, did you think about changing your car? If yes, what did you do? If no, why not?
We did, yes. We already had a fairly large car but we knew we would need something bigger for our growing family once Jack was a little older. We didn’t get a new one until Jack was almost three as the necessity wasn’t there but as he got bigger and we thought about expanding our family, we knew we would eventually have to choose a bigger car.
2) How has driving changed since you’ve started your family?
We drive a lot more now. Whether we are driving to school (we’ll often walk though), visiting family, going to work or taking Jack to birthday parties, we generally seem to be spending more time in the car. Steve is driving to work more often now too as he is often taking on overtime so we can go on special family days out.
3) Do you know how safe your car is?
I can’t say I actually do. I am guessing it is pretty safe as it passed its MOT after we completed some repairs?
4) Have you considered changing your car further?
It hasn’t crossed my mind yet as this car is the perfect size right now for our family and any future children that may come along. We bought it on finance second hand though and it is getting quite old so we may eventually have to change.
5) As a parent, what is the most important thing you consider when buying a car?
Size and comfort. These go hand in hand anyway. We need it to be big enough to fit us all and everything we need to take with us in and we also need it to be comfortable for long journeys such as when we go on holiday.
6) What do you think would be the ideal car for your family?
Something like what we have now (Ford Focus C-Max). It is a great size with plenty of legroom and masses of boot space. Since we often go on holiday within the UK with my parents, we need lots of space to fit us and all of our belongings in. Our perfect car would have to be something a similar size or bigger than what we already have.
I found this survey to be very interesting. We all have our own reasons for choosing the cars we do and what things we absolutely must have when buying a new one. Every family is different – some may only use their cars for errands, others for absolutely everything including a daily commute. Having answered these questions, I realise just how perfect for us our car is.
