It has always fascinated me – the big bucks that celebrities insure their body parts for. Steve and I were actually talking about it with a friend the other day – how some people have insured their legs for millions of pounds because they are essential to their career (think footballers, singers who also dance/model). Insurance payouts in TV and films can also be mega bucks and it is quite astounding just how much money can be paid out for cost of production delays!
Aon Insurance recently created this infographic detailing the biggest insurance payouts in TV & film and why they happened – the numbers are quite something aren’t they! Its also crazy to see just how risky some of these films can be and what the cast and crew sometimes put themselves through in order to get a good piece of film!
$3 million dollars for production delay due to Nicole Kidman’s hurt knee? 70 cast and crew hurt during the filming of Roar? It is quite crazy when you think about it but also really interesting to know – it isn’t something people often think about. They don’t realise how much money a film can lose if hit with multiple delays and they don’t always think about the things that the cast and especially the crew do to get a good piece of film. Or even the fact that Game of Thrones managed to damage the ecosystem of a protected beach in Malta.
Quite shocking really! What are your thoughts?
