Staying Fit & Healthy This Winter

Collaborative Post

This year has taken a real toll on the collective health and fitness of the country but it is even more important to continue being resilient and doing the same things as we move into Winter. The season brings with it all manners of colds, bugs and flus and these are often bad enough without an added pandemic into the mix. We must keep doing what we have been doing all year, perhaps even more so during the colder months.

Here are my top tips for staying fit and healthy this winter.

Eat Well

It sounds obvious but the better you eat, the better you will feel. Fast food and lots of sugars and caffeine can leave you feeling bloated and sluggish which can make you more susceptible to passing bugs. Make sure you are eating a nutritious and balanced diet.

Wrap Up Warm

It can be super easy to get poorly if you aren’t dressing appropriately for the weather. Sometimes temperatures can drop really low so it is vital that you are wrapping up warm and not taking the risk of getting too cold – you don’t want to suffer the consequences.

Keep Sanitised

Just like we have all year, we should be continuing to keep our hands and surfaces sanitised, It is so important to do this to kill off any nasties that want to try and make us poorly.

If you’re looking for the perfect hand sanitiser, Palm+ Moisturising Antibacterial Hand Gel might be what you need. Their hand gels are made with over 60% alcohol and are tested in accordance with BS N 1276:2009.

Not only that but they are vegan friendly, cruelty free and are bottled in 50% recycled plastic packaging. They are super affordable, perfect for little hands too and are from the people behind Good Bubble, the natural children’s toiletries brand (you may remember them from Dragons Den).

It is moisturising and feels great and you can even get a Healthy Hands bundle which is suitable for the whole family and kind to children. The range is definitely worth checking out.

Get Outdoors When You Can

It may sound like an awful idea as the winter months can be very dark, dreary and cold but getting outdoors can be really beneficial to your health so make sure you are getting out in the natural daylight as much as you possibly can. Our bodies need Vitamin D which has massive benefits for our hearts, skin, immunity and mental health and natural daylight is a perfect natural source of this. Whilst you may be apprehensive about doing it, it will make you feel better too – nothing like a bracing walk in the cooler temperatures.

Try To Get A Good Nights Sleep

I have already mentioned that the colder months and bad habits can leave us feeling sluggish and this is even worse if you are not getting a good nights sleep. Everyone should be getting 8-10 hours a night although this isn’t always possible for some. To get a good nights sleep, you may need to go to bed a little earlier to wind down and put down your technology devices for some time before actually going to sleep to better your chances. You will so much more refreshed and healthy after you’ve had the hours of sleep you actually need.

Keep Exercising

Even if you aren’t going out as much, it is important to keep your fitness routine going, even if that means you need to adapt. If you normally go running outside but the colder months leave you reluctant to doing so, switch up your routine and try something new but as high intensity. You will feel all the better for it.

  1. Some very good tips – I’ve been guzzling down the vitamin C to help immunity – seems to help as my annual cold sore outbreak is not as severe as usual.

  2. This is great advice, although I do struggle to keep focused on my health at this time of year, I just kind of go in to hibernation mode! Its bad really.

We are trying to make a real effort and working through our healthy slow cooker book, keeps us warm and filled up but in a healthy non carb filled way which is normally my go to!

I did comment the other day that all this extra handwashing and sanitising seems to have kept the back to school germs at bay for us x

  3. Some great tips here on how to stay fit and healthy this winter! I’ve not tried Palm+ brand yet but will look out for their Moisturising Antibacterial Hand Gel the next time I go shopping.

I know that I need to keep going outdoors and doing some exercise, but really struggle with motivation once the weather gets bad.

I’ve finally managed to find exercise I enjoy so thankfully I seem okay on that one. For me I need to get outside more, I can go quite a few days without going outside which isn’t good x

  6. I’ve been trying to get out for a walk every day , even if it’s just for half hour . It has definitely been doing me wonders 🙂

  7. We are going out every day, even if it’s just to pick up coffee or short walk. Great post. Thanks for sharing.

  8. I have really started to feel the cold this week so we all got our big coats on when we went for a walk. We had hat, scarf and gloves too.

Sufficient Rest and Relaxation. As we do need to Rest. Some people are Desperate for some :- Peace and Quiet. This can be Quite Understandable, Especially given the Fast Pace of Life / Work / Work Environments, Etc.
