Collaborative Post
Many people are wondering whether blogging is finally dead in 2020.
We have seen a lot of changes this year, and something that many people are expecting is the death of the blogger. However, you might be surprised to find that despite these claims, blogs are not predicted to go away any time soon.
But what does that really mean for content creators in 2020?
If you are interested in starting a blog in 2020, as you now have more free time than before, it is important to consider whether blogging is a dying breed in 2020 and whether this is a venture worth your time.
Are blogs still being read?
Years ago, you might have had a list of blogs saved into your bookmarks that you would read religiously. However now the question is do people still read blogs?
Like magazines of the past, people would patiently wait for the latest blog post to come from their favourite websites so they could read about another person’s thoughts and opinions.
There have been so many changes happening to the media industry over the years, and one significant change is the slow death of print products like magazines and newspapers.
Only a few years ago, blogs were being blamed for the lack of interest in print media and now are questioning whether blogging is still relevant today.
With an increase in fast media in the forms of social media posts, online videos, and podcasts, it makes sense that people are questioning the relevancy of blogs in 2020.
After all, if you can get your information in a much quicker format then why would you spend the time reading a long article?
However, the truth about blogging in 2020 might surprise you because people are still reading blogs.
Despite the range of other content that is available, blogging still has as a large fanbase, and it seems like it will be a while before this kind of content disappears just yet.
Several studies have been done into blogs and their relevancy in today’s climate, all of which show that a large percentage of people still read them.
After all, this is a piece of blog content that you are reading right now, which makes you one of the large population of people who still find value in the written word.

How Is Blogging Still Relevant?
If you are thinking about starting a blog, then chances are you have been questioning how the written blog can be relevant in 2020.
With an influx of videos, podcasts and images across social media, there is no denying that there are easier ways to get information.
It makes sense that videos, podcasts, and images have increased in popularity over the years.
Not only is this fast content that you can take in within seconds, rather than reading a full-form blog post, it also allows you to multi-task.
For most of us in 2020, multi-tasking is a must. We rarely ever take the time to focus on one task at a time, which is why videos and podcasts are so popular right now.
You can listen to or watch something while also performing another task.
This is not something you can do with a blog post, as the written word requires all of your attention for some time.
However, whether you are looking for entertainment or a way to connect with other people, it seems that blogging is not dead.
The slow nature of the written word seems to be the reason why blogging remains relevant.
With all of the noise and busyness going on around us, it is nice to take time out and read something. In the same way that books are still a popular pastime for people of all ages, blogging allows us to take a break from the noise and fall into a relaxation state.
Should I Start A Blog In 2020?
While there is no denying that videos, podcasts, and images are on the rise, the written word continues to be a fan favourite.
There is a lot of data to suggest that blogging in the written form is not only still alive, but is also doing very well!
Blogging is something that can be done by anyone who has a passion for writing and has something to say. While it is much easier to create a two-minute video using your smartphone, there is an art behind blogging that still appeals to so many people.
Despite the claims of print media dying, we still have newsagents full of papers and magazines that continue to sell every week.
Books were once considered to be a dying art when televisions were introduced, but from the thousands of stories that are being published every day, it is clear to see how wrong these predictions were.
There will always be a place for written content for those who want to read it and those who are patient enough to produce it.
Blogging may be a slower game than making videos or posting images onto social media, but it is a worthwhile journey to take if you have a passion for writing.
Despite the claims that blogging is finally dead in 2020, there is a whole host of professional and hobbyist writers alike who will show you that it is very much alive and well.
Take a moment to search for a written blog and see how many results come up. All of these people can’t be wrong!
Why You Should Start A Blog In 2020
Now that you know blogging is not a dying breed and there is plenty of life left in this kind of media, it is time for you to take action.
If you want to share your thoughts and opinions with the world, there are so many benefits that come from choosing blogging as your platform:
- Specific Target Audiences
One of the reasons why blogging is still relevant today is because of the uncanny ability it has for targeting specific people. Using certain SEO techniques and uploading regular content is a great way to connect with the audience you desire, whether you are running a business or looking for a personal outlet.
Those who are looking for specific information are more likely to turn to a blog post rather than sit through even a two-minute clip that might be completely irrelevant.
- Links Included
Blogging can be an excellent tool for promotion, as it allows for lots of link building.
It is much easier to embed a link into a blog post than it is to shout out something on social media. There is also a higher chance that people will use the links in a blog post.
- Fun, Unique Creative Outlet
Blogging can be such a fun and unique way to express yourself creatively.
Writing is a skill that is admired in so many industries, and blogging gives you a chance to work on your skills. You can spend your time creating something meaningful that will probably stick in people’s minds longer than a video they saw on social media.
Books are renowned for being powerful things for the changes they can evoke, and blogging is simply the modern equivalent, so why not get involved?

Thanks for that! Very interesting, I would love to start a blog next year but it is the tech that scares me, I am in my 50’s and we never even had computers in our school. I have done 2 college courses now to give me that confidence, I just need to bite the bullet and go for it!
I intend to start a blog but it will probable be for family only to document some of the weird and wonderful things I’ve uncovered in our family history. It’s such an easy way to keep everyone in the loop and allows them to go at their own pace!
Agree with you Sarah, blogs are still interesting, informative and interactive.
