The new year brings with it plenty of opportunities and also many goals or resolutions. One such resolution that many people decide upon is getting fit. But this requires plenty of clothing and equipment, doesn’t it? You need the trainers, the clothes specifically for exercise and sweating, the weights, the skipping rope – whichever equipment you require for your preferred method of fitness. But it can become quite expensive buying it all new!
Getting fit is just one of my goals for the year and I’ve been thinking about what I need to do to help me achieve my goals. My trainers/sneakers have got a slight split in the sole but I am loathe to get rid of them – they cost me quite a bit of money and fit perfectly and I think it would be hard to find a pair I like as much. Until now, I didn’t think there was a way that I would be able to keep them and I was resigning myself to having to throw them away. That is until I found out that sneaker repair is a thing, meaning I can have my favourite pair of sneakers looking as good as new once more!
We’ve all got that favourite pair of shoes that could do with a little bit of TLC, right? I always remember my Dad going to get his lovely leather shoes repaired – he had the same pair for years and got them repaired rarely but I always remember going with him and watching them at work! It was fascinating.

Having been brought up watching him taking those for repair, you can imagine I was brought up to repair and repurpose other stuff around the home and that is true! I am loathe to throw anything out if I think it can be repaired. If it can’t be repaired to it’s usual use, then I often see if it can be repurposed instead to save it from being wasted!
There are many reasons why you should consider using a shoe cobbler to repair your shoes rather than just throwing them out and I’ve mentioned above my reasons – there is no reason to throw something out that you love if it can be fixed, right? If your resolution is to repair more, recycle more and save items from landfill, it would be silly not to utilise the services on offer.
Now that I know my sneakers can be saved, I can start to think of the other things I need for my 2021 fitness routine. I’m even thinking about utilising other items in the house to help me – repurposing them to fit what I need them for.
Have you ever got your shoes or sneakers repaired or do you tend to throw things out and buy new? Why not check next time and see if your comfortable shoes that you love can be fixed? You never know, you may get to fall in love with them all over again! I can’t wait for mine to be fixed!
