I am lucky enough to live in a small village where crime doesn’t really happen all too often. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen though. Every now and again there will be a burglary, there’s been fights down local pubs where knives have been pulled (quite a few years back now but terrifying as we got locked inside- fight was outside) even muggings (happened to me and some friends at the local park!). However these are very few and far between and I feel lucky that I don’t live in the towns and cities closest the village where crime is much more rife and often hitting the national news.
Living in such a place with little crime doesn’t mean that I don’t consider security, both home and personal, important. I am still always wary if walking home alone in the dark and try to ensure I walk back with someone, get a lift or let someone know where I am. I also try to be secure and safe with my house, ensuring doors and windows are all locked and all appliances are off and all plugs out before leaving the house. It is something my Mum always did and it is ingrained into me now. If we owned this house or could easily obtain permission, I would certainly install a smart home system as they seem so easy to use and offer peace of mind which is something I definitely need!
Have you ever considered home security systems? Do you have one?

I definitely think I would invest in something like this, having a lot of camera and computer equipment I would hate for it to get stolen and I’m constantly checking my housemates close the windows and lock up properly before they go out! xxx
We live in the city centre and have been thinking about getting some security. You can never be too careful.
We have had quite a few local break ins so we do as much as poss including fitting an alarm to protect our selves and prevent burglaries.
Yes that is something I have already invested in. I live in London and home/personal security is a must! I don’t generally feel unsafe but think that it is always better to be safe than sorry! Cheers for sharing
I have thought about getting one – just to feel that little more safe. x
I live in a village but it has a busy main road that runs through it, we were broken into a couple of years ago, totally wiped us out. Even though we thought security was good and had 2 large dogs.
Our house is now so secure and we have video cameras up around the property it really does make you feel safer and more secure.
There are no security systems where I live but things would be so much better if there was. I think it is important to stay safe in your own home.
We don’t have one, but I’ve always wanted one as I can see the benefit of them for sure. x
I think this would be great for my mother-in-law. She does have security lights and motion alarms and other security but a Smart home system with a video camera would be amazing for her.
I live alone in London, when I first moved here I think I was a little afraid but I’m used to it now. I have a strong front door and ‘nearly’ always remember to lock the back door when I go to bed! x
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe that happened to you, I hope you are OK now and it’s good that you are so wary of making your way home alone etc.
We don’t have a security system but this has definitely made me think, I can’t believe that it’s never crossed my mind before, especially as I can be a little jumpy myself.
We rent so I don’t think it’s viable for us right now but I can certainly see the benefits!

i think about it all the time. i’m like you, if i hear the slightest noise then i think i’m under attack! great post.
we dont have a security system, but I think it’s a good idea for everyone to have one
We have, and are still considering getting one. It’s so important.
I would definitely like to get a home security system and it is something we might look into when we move.
This is such a good stuff! I would definitely be getting one once we move in to our apartment. By the way, it is good to have pets so whenever there is a noise at night, we can all be like ‘yea, it’s just a cat’ 😀 without staying awake and panicking 😀

I feel like less and less people are using home alarm systems these days.. I remember when I was younger and all my friends’ homes would have them but I’ve found that people turn them on less when they leave the house now :/ Something like this would definitely reassure me though!
Really good post, especially for this time of year. Unfortunately one of my old neighbours at my parents house got burgled the other day and had all their christmas presents stolen 🙁 I’d hate to see anyone else go through that. Home security has never really been on my mind but it is now x
I live in a small rural town and it is so safe here. I have never thought of a security system. Kaz x
This would be ideally for me as I always get so worried at home xxx
