We love Num Noms in this house – you only need to look at our previous reviews to see that – and I have always mentioned how I do not make my kids play with gender specific toys. If Jack wants to play with a ‘girly’ toy or Olivia with a ‘boys’ toy, then they can do – I am not going to stop them.
With that in mind, we had to say yes when offered the Num Nom lipgloss truck to review. Available on Amazon here for £24.99, usually £29.99 {affiliate link}, this lipgloss truck is from Series 5 and has lots to play with – it includes everything you could ever need to make your own lipgloss. You can even wheel the truck away or carry it with you! Whilst Jack won’t necessarily wear the lipgloss made (he left that to me and his little sister), why shouldn’t he have fun playing with the Num Noms characters and making the lipgloss itself?
The set comes with the truck itself (designed like an ice cream van) with a spoon handle, a lip gloss base, 2 lipgloss flavourings (cotton candy and birthday cake), a glitter sprinkles shaker, a cupcake mixing tool with a cherry spatula, a special edition scented Num and 3 lipgloss sundae container Noms.
The truck itself is very colourful and easily caught the attention of my two kids. They absolutely loved wheeling it around and playing with the Num Noms before eventually getting down to making their very own lipgloss. But how do you actually make the gloss, I hear you ask? Simple!
First of all you need to divide the main gloss bowl into 8 pieces. Spoon out one piece and place it into the mixing bowl which is on the top of the truck. You then choose your flavouring and add a few drops and also sprinkle some glitter. The flavouring is up to you, of course, you can have one or the other or even both together. Then give it a stir before spooning it into the top part of the truck where the plunger is – then simply plunge it into one of the provided sundae pots!
The kids had plenty of fun making lipglosses and playing with the Num Noms themselves – once they’d finished making and playing, they simply packed it all away and used the truck in more imaginative play, driving it around the living room and pretending to catch each others ankles with it – I never said they were gentle with each other, haha!
This is a great toy for both boys and girls – I’d say it is best suited to ages 5 and up though due to the fiddly nature of the lipgloss creation. This would make a great birthday or Christmas present – Jack has already said that he’d love to get this for a friend one birthday although I do think it is perhaps a little too high in price for just a friend’s present but not a family member.
