My Mountain Travel Bucket List

I am entering the AliKats’ Dream of Mountains Challenge. Read more about it here.

2020 has been an awful year, hasn’t it? Like many of you, I can’t wait for it to be over, for this whole current situation to be over, so I can travel again. I am choosing to stay positive, however, and instead of moping about not being able to travel right now, I am thinking about where I want to go and what I want to do when we are able to travel properly again.

Something that I have been thinking about a lot is wanting to see some mountains up close. The Alps in particular. The closest I have been to them is flying over them and they are breathtaking to look at from a plane but I bet that’s nothing compared to what they are like on the ground. I have a few different books that I love that are located in the Alps and they have always seemed like this magical beautiful place that I really should explore.

So in the spirit of positivity and looking forward to future travel, I thought I’d share with you the places I’ve currently got on my mountain bucket list. These statuesque areas of natural beauty really are a sight to behold and it is about time I got to see them with my own two eyes!

  • The Alps – I’d love to visit the Alps and I’d love to visit all the countries the Alps happens to have ranges in including France, Italy and Switzerland. I remember flying over them when travelling abroad and being awed by how beautiful they were from up high – it really is something to look out upon. The Alps feature in many of my favourite books including Heidi, Frankenstein and even some books and stories by Agatha Christie, my favourite author of all time! These mountains just call out to me and I’d love to see them personally.

  • Pen y Fan – I could even look a little closer to home. I knew about some of the mountains dotted around the UK but Pen y Fan seems to have passed me by! Having seen friends such as Ania climb it and the sheer beauty, I really must visit myself especially as I love Wales!
  • Grouse Mountain – It is hardly a surprise that I am including Canada in here, is it? I have always wanted to visit Canada and being engaged to someone who is part Canadian as well as now having two kids who have Canadian heritage, it is definitely somewhere we are going to visit in the future – and why not check out Grouse Mountain whilst we are there? My friend Lisa headed to Canada a few years ago and I was so jealous – she got to see all the sights and I couldn’t have been more envious. With gorgeous views of Vancouver, it really is somewhere I must visit before I die.

  • Tenerife – Did you know there are five mountain ranges in Tenerife? I didn’t! The island is dominated by Mt. Teide, a dormant volcano that is Spain’s tallest peak. We keep meaning to fly over to Tenerife to see Steve’s sister who lives out there and this would be the perfect opportunity to tick some mountains off the bucket list too. The island has always intrigued me and it’d be nice to see my sister in law’s life out there whilst also having some time to head off and explore it in more detail.

Whilst I would of course love to visit some of the most famous mountains and mountain ranges in the world such as Mount Everest, you know me – I love visiting the lesser known and lesser visited places!

Do you find mountain ranges beautiful like me? Have you ever visited any?

  1. I love looking out at views of mountains, we were lucky to do an Island visit in Tenerife and travelling to the top of Mount Tede and back down the other side. An amazing experience. Thank you for featuring my photo

  2. The only one of these I’ve done is Tenerife, it is quite spectacular.

I can imagine the alps would be amazing to.

Let’s hope next year is more conducive to travelling x

I’ve been to the Canary Islands but not Tenerife. You’ve got a great opportunity there once it’s easier to travel.

  4. I haven’t been to a mountain range in a long time. I’ve always wanted to see a volcano so Tenerife would kill two bird with one stone for me.

  5. I love looking at the landscapes of mountains especially when it is covered with snow. I’ve seen the Alps when I was in Swizerland and it looked amazing! I can’t wait to go back again

I want to go to the Canadian rocky mountains as I’ve heard they’re beautiful. I would also love to go to Alps as well, I’ve only seen them from a distance x

  7. So many awesome places on this list! I LOVE the Alps, they’re so beautiful whatever the time of year and I’m desperate to go back after a great trip a couple of years ago. They really have everything – hiking, running, ski, swimming and of course amazing food!

  8. Think it helps to think positive and plan ahead especially as things have been so hard of late. Pen y Fan is lovely.

  9. When I was a teenager, my class teacher would always take us hiking. Back then, we were jealous of different classes, who travelled to ‘cool’ places and adventure parks. Today, I am grateful that I got to explore the Owl Mountains and the Great Mountains so much.

  10. I love being in the mountians and my favourites have all been in Iceland. I would love to climb Ben Nevis as did snowdon last year
