Must Have For Any Household: Thane H20 X5 Steam Cleaner
If you don’t like pictures of dirt and grime, this post probably won’t be for you! Also, yes – that is my overflowing book collection in plastic boxes in my dining room – what can I say, I have too many – and I need to get my gardener friend round to take care of the forest that is my back garden!
We were recently sent the Thane H20 X5 Steam Cleaner to review. It has taken me a while to get this review up as I really wanted to give it a thorough test and with a very messy toddler I definitely had a chance to!
The mop is a 5 in 1 steam cleaning system: a floor cleaner, carpet steamer, hand held steamer, window cleaner and garment steamer (we’re planning on trying it on our fabric sofa!). It uses simple tap or distilled water and kills up to 99% of bacteria. It works on a variety of floor types and comes with a whole assembly of accessories to enable you to use it for whichever purpose you require.
Currently retailing at £79.99 down from £99.99, you have probably seen this product featured all over the TV adverts with plenty of high praise. I’m always one to be sceptical of high praise – after all, I’ve fallen for hype when it comes to beauty products before and been bitterly disappointed – so I wanted to see if this really could get rid of the nitty gritty.
A steam cleaner had long been on our list of household items to purchase but we never seemed to purchase one – usually because as soon as we had enough money saved up, our hoover would pack up (we’re on our 3rd one in 2.5 years now and this one already looks like its on its last legs…). We decided to try it out for the first time when Steve had some holiday from work so he could do the hard graft and I could take the pictures.. I have him well trained, don’t I? 😉
As you can imagine, things get dirty very easily with a toddler and when living in private rented accommodation, you want to take every precautionary measure to make the place gleam in the hope of getting your deposit back. Whilst we have no intention of moving yet, its best to tackle problems like stains now than have trouble down the line. It is only very slight but in the above two pictures, the top has a slight stain from where Jack dropped something – I’m not sure what. Whilst it hasn’t completely disappeared, the steam cleaner has definitely removed the majority of it and I am really glad – I hadn’t noticed it was there before so I dread to think how long it had been there!
With a toddler in the house and friends who often pop round and go out the back for a crafty ciggie, the glass panes in our patio doors are filthy. All the other windows in our house were changed and updated a month or two ago except these and they probably still had the workmens dusty fingerprints on them too from when they were traipsing in and out the house.
Jack was very amused by the steam as you can imagine although we kept him a safe distance away from it at all times. As you can see, the windows started to sparkle immediately – whilst we obviously can’t reach the outsides of the first floor windows, we will definitely save a pretty packet on window cleaners by doing the inside and outside of the downstairs windows!
Finally we thought we would try it on the seal/lining at the bottom of the patio doors. Steve’s parents occasionally bring their dog round, people are always traipsing in and out the back door and sometimes people even have a sneaky ciggie out the door whilst standing slightly in the house to shelter from the rain – all this makes for ickiness when it comes to the bottom of the door. Once we noticed how bad it was, we thought we’d give the steam cleaner a whirl and see how it fared.
As you can see, the dirt that was caked on literally melted away. Whilst I have seen other people get great results on their carpets, I certainly wasn’t as impressed with how this fared on my carpets as them – but I am definitely wowed by how it cleaned up my patio doors. The Thane H20 X5 Steam Cleaner can be used on a variety of surfaces and I have a long list of places I want to tackle next!
The Thane H20 X5 Steam Cleaner is available in green, red or white for a bargain price of £79.99 although this won’t last forever. I think this is a must have for any household but especially if you have mucky toddlers – after all, those toddler hands get everywhere – even places you didn’t think they could reach!

I've seen a few cleaning product reviews around at the moment and it's making me feel guilty at all of the cleaning I need to to do! Looks like it works really well on windows, ours are caked!

I love my handheld steam cleaner – I was a bit skeptical before I bought it but it makes it so much easier to clean and even makes the kids want to help me!
Great review. I really, really want to get one of these. We have mostly wooden floor in our house and three cats walking back and fore with muddy, wet feet very often! This would be ideal. x
I am really well satisfied with the h2o steam mop, i bought the steam cleaner over a year ago and it has worked perfect for me every single time. Yes water will sometimes drip from the mop but hey presto the makers even give you a little pin to use in a small hole on the head of the mop so you can get rid of the limescale that may build up when useing the ordinary tap water. If you unclog this little hole before use you should not have a problem with dripping i have to say the best way to not have any limescale is to use cool water out of a kettle or water jug with a filter (brita) or some make of this kind. another way would be to check the setting you have put the machine on

My husband bought a steam cleaner recently and it works well on our kitchen floor tiles. I also used it to clean my suede winter boots.
What a nifty little tool! Maybe I'd be more motivated to clean if I had something like this!
