Making Stressful Life Events Run More Smoothly

Collaborative Post

Maybe you’re preparing for your driving test, planning on moving house or have a baby on the way. Perhaps you have just started caring for an unwell family or are looking to move careers? These things might all sound very different, but there are ways you can tackle any difficult situation. Here are some ideas!

Get organised/ plan ahead

Knowing exactly what you need to do and when can be really helpful and prevent stress. For example, if you’re moving house then start packing boxes as early as you can. That way, a moving company like mybekins.com can move everything with no last minute rushing around. Write lists of all of the address changes you’ll need to make (such as schools, doctors and dentists) put together an essentials pack for moving day. Work out if you’ll have your children and pets looked after while you move, and what sort of paperwork you’ll need on the day.

Research

No matter what the situation is, researching beforehand can help to ease your mind. In the case of an exam this would of course be revision, but research can come into anything. If you’re going to be caring for a family member, research what their condition involves and what kind of care they’ll need. If you’re hoping to change careers, research the job market and what you’ll need to do to make that next step onto the ladder. Arm yourself with knowledge and the situation will feel much less daunting.

Get help if you can (or need)

A little help from your friends can be absolutely invaluable during a difficult situation. It doesn’t matter what you’re going through, speak to your loved ones. They can offer a new perspective or just be a support/ cheerleader/ shoulder to cry on. Sometimes when we’re in the midst of a hard time we can feel really alone, opening up to those you care about helps you to remember that you’re not.

Save some money

Money isn’t the answer to everything in life, but it certainly helps. Regardless of what your plans are, having some money put aside to use if you need it can be helpful. Whether it’s more lessons after a failed driving test, money to take a course to improve your job prospects, money to buy baby equipment if you’re expecting or whatever else the situation involves.

What sort of tricky life events do you have on the horizon, and how will you deal with them?
