We have recently moved house and as we have been moved into our permanent home from temporary accommodation, that has meant emptying our storage unit and getting the rest of our stuff from various family members houses. Now the home we have moved into isn’t massive and we have also added a brand new baby into the mix so storage is a must to ensure we can fit everything in.
We are very lucky in that we have quite a large shed in our back garden which is great for storing stuff in. We are actually currently storing a couple of items ready for my brother in law to move into the flat he has bought – however the shed is a complete state and there is no semblance of order to the area at all.
What we have been doing is looking into storage solutions for the shed – a way of keeping our items easily accessible but neat and tidy. Something we have been thinking about doing is adding some shelving from BiGDUG. The units are the perfect size and shape for our shed and would fit all the stuff that we need to keep in there such as garden tools, bird food and outdoor toys. Our shed often becomes a bit of a dumping ground and I’d like to avoid that if possible, which is why I need it to be organised well.

I’ve also been considering laying some flooring such as this garage flooring. It is robust and easy to clean and maintain and will help protect our belongings from the elements if they get through. Our shed is pretty weather proof but anything that we can do to protect the items inside it is something we will do! With both this flooring and some of their units, my shed should be pretty well equipped, ready to store all of the items that I need to.
Here are a few other ways, alongside some decent shelving units for storage, that we are going to organise our shed.
Decluttering
First and foremost, we definitely need to declutter. As well as the items that my brother in law needs to move to his flat, we also have some items in there that we could certainly get rid of. Unfortunately we threw some items in there when we first moved in, just to ensure they were out of the way, and with the pregnancy and multiple hospital appointments and stays, that is where they have stayed! These things definitely need to be sorted!
Use The Ceiling
Our shed has quite a high ceiling and it seems a shame if we do not utilise that space in some way. If there is a way to use it and store some other stuff that needs to be in the shed, then I am planning to do so. We need to utilise all the space possible and store things wisely.
Set It Up In Specific Sections
The last thing I am going to do to organise the shed is to have everything in specific sections so it is easy to find. Garden equipment and tools in one section, DIY stuff such as other tools and paint in another, kids toys and other outside equipment in another. By keeping it in categories, it should be easier for me to find the items that I need.
