Jack’s First Week In Full Time School

Jack started in Reception on the 7th of September. His first few days were settling in days where he was only in for a few hours at a time but he’s now been attending for a whole full week and started his second full week yesterday.

So how is he getting on?

He really seems to be taking to it like a duck to water. He did struggle for the first few days adjusting to the new time schedule – jumping up from 3 hours to 6 hours is quite a leap and it really took it out of him the first few days, he was so exhausted that he fell to sleep pretty quickly. He is enjoying having a more structured approach to learning from what I can gather – he likes still having his ‘Learning through play’ time but he is also really enjoying learning about different things and having storytime.

He is so far very enthusiastic about his homework – his first weekend he had to decorate his homework book and this weekend he had to draw a picture of his favourite book character – and he is loving that he is able to go to the library and pick out a book to bring home. But what exactly is his favourite thing about full time school?

LUNCH.

Yes…my child adores lunch time the most. They have a really healthy menu and a variety of options to choose from but he especially loves Wednesday lunches as they have roast dinners or Friday’s as its Fun Friday which has pizza, fish fingers or fun things like that. He also really liked yesterdays lunch as he could have his favourite – SAUSAGES! They also get a healthy dessert and Jack has been enjoying working his way through those too!

He’s really enjoying his time at Reception and really seems to be flourishing. He’s still got some of his old friends from Nursery but has also made new friends and really seems to have grown in confidence. He isn’t struggling with the full day anymore and I think that he would rather stay at school than come home half the time as he loves it that much!

I’m so impressed with how well he is getting on, I just can’t believe how quickly he is growing up – my baby boy is now a full time school student, how crazy is that?
