I am so glad that I was a teen before social media really took off. Sure, I had a Myspace page, Bebo page, countless other long defunct profiles – and Facebook- but these all luckily made it big (or are long since defunct) after the photos I was looking through the other day.
I’ve had to wear glasses since I was ten which hasn’t bothered me in the slightest. In fact, I feel slightly weird without them now. However, I was not a big fan of them when I was told by my dentist I needed to go to the orthodontist and get fitted with train tracks. Yes, that’s right – instead of having neither or one or the other like my friends did, I had the double whammy of train track braces and horrible specs.
My experience with my train track braces wasn’t a positive one due to a variety of reasons (I also really didn’t get on with my orthodontist who kept them on longer than he perhaps should have done). I would have longed for Invisalign back then.
Invisalign seem to be getting really big now with plenty of celebrities and Youtube stars using them to fix their teeth without people being able to tell they are using them. Invisible braces were pretty much unheard of when I was younger and even so, would have been mega bucks to have but I know that I would definitely have opted for them if I could. Train tracks and specs together did not suit me in the slightest and since I had a negative experience with train tracks overall, I would have loved another option to choose from.
I look back at the time period when I have braces with sadness now. I didn’t enjoy myself as much as I should have done because I was always so focused on what I could eat, how I looked. I never just had fun like I should have done – I was only a kid. If I ever needed braces again in the future, I would definitely consider Invisalign. No metal wire that can snap and cut into your gum or be tightened too much by an over eager orthodontist. Just some plastic that will do the same job. What could be better?
