Inspiration | Office Decor

A home office is something myself and Steve have been talking about for a little while now. As I’ve mentioned before money is a little tight right now due to Steve’s unemployment, but being the positive thinkers we are, we have been looking towards the future. He is currently in the screening part of a job application (after the first interview) and the interviewer seemed very positive so fingers crossed

Something we have had to consider is how I would work around him if he was to get this/a similar job. Working in security isn’t normally set shifts – most places will call you in at anytime. We worked out that with Steve working and me staying in my part time job, we would be one wage up but we’d also have to pay out for childcare, double the travel money, double the expenses plus Steve wouldn’t be able to just agree to overtime and would probably lose out. Although this is all in the future, we have had to be practical and think of ways around this.

I have also been discussing this with people at work and they agree with me – what is the point of staying in a job where I’ll be worse off? Hours have been cut right back at the moment so there is no chance of overtime and I’m just not sure that retail is for me anymore. After 7 years, I just think I need a change. That change is for me to become a WAHM. I will be doing all manners of things to provide an income but it makes much more sense than still falling short every month. I’ll be able to set my own hours and look after Jack – and if I need some time to myself, my Mum is just ten minutes away and can take Jack out for the afternoon!

But of course, I need a working space. I’m not saying that all the work I do is going to be done sitting at a computer, however I know that some of it will and I need a comfortable, happy, inspiring place to get my work done. My desk at the minute is a total state and I will be tackling this over the weekend but here are some offices that I simply adore…

Basically, I want my home office to be really pretty but incredibly organised – is that too much to ask?

(I think it might be…I’m not the most organised of people! But I shall have to learn!)

Have you got a post on your home office space? I’d love to read it πŸ™‚

I’ll also be doing some Up Your Income style blog posts in the distant future; talking about survey websites, cashback sites, Ebay and others in much more depth. Is there something in particular you’d like to see?

  1. Office inspiration is one of my favourite things! I keep meaning to have a good tidy up of my desk area and do a post on it but never seem to get round to it..

  2. EilidhPie says:

Exciting times ahead for you – good luck to both you and Steve! Xo

  3. Good luck with it all! πŸ™‚ I'd love to be able to work from home and still working things out! I adore my office space that I've set up, I recommend IKEA for cutesie things! πŸ™‚ xx

  4. Love these inspiration pics. Unfortunately, we don't have an entire room devoted to an office, but we do have an "office nook!" It's on my blog if you want to check it out (along with a lot of other pictures of offices that I WISH I had!)

  5. Love the mason jars. Great inspiring pictures. I always wonder if people actually work at these super clean desks. πŸ™‚ My husband has a desk like this. Mine always has more "stuff" on it but I know where everything is.

Best of luck with the organization and new step in your life!

  6. Things just FEEL better when they're organized, and they look better too. And with that being said, I refuse to talk about my junk drawer in my desk. πŸ˜‰

I'm visiting today from the Raising Imperfection hop.

    1. Agree! Haha, junk drawers are a must though πŸ˜‰

  7. Finally linking up with my Friday Flash Blog community. Thanks for linking up and sharing in the fun! Have a terrific week and see you this evening.

  8. UGH D: I lost my comment my internet is so stupid it's been doing this all morning!

Basically I said glad that things are going well for you now, and I know what you mean about work. I'm on 16 hours now, which is a joke because that's the bare minimum that you can have before you have to go onto income support. Yet, I need to be available all week. Even some basic apprenticeships pay you more than that!

Thinking about finding some voluntary I.T work, and training in I.T or working somewhere like The Carphone Warehouse for a while. I feel more comfortable with technology.

Also love the office ideas. I love what you can use in the home like cleaned jars, and boxes and baskets to make everything feel more natural and relaxed.

    1. I know what you mean job wise hun – meh!x
