If We Were To Move To Canada…

Collaborative Post

I have talked before about potentially moving to Canada. However if this was to happen there are quite a few things that we would need to consider. I thought I would share a few of these here.

Education

When it comes to education, this is something that is so important to us. However uprooting the kids and changing their whole education to another countries education system would be a big shock. We’ve talked before about private education and we would definitely consider that if we were to move abroad. Perhaps look at boarding schools in Toronto? Who knows?!

Family

Moving abroad would have a big impact on our lives especially when it comes to our families. I would be reluctant to leave my mum behind and my in-laws have recently moved so wouldn’t be prepared to move again however they would probably come to stay for extended periods. For this reason, we would need to ensure the house we buy is accessible – adding home mobility aids from https://silvercross.com/, for example.

Getting Rid Of A Lot Of Our Stuff

Something else that we would have to do would be get rid of a lot of our stuff. Yes, we could move stuff abroad but there is no way we would be able to take everything – and it would cost a pretty penny to do so! We would obviously have to declutter a load of stuff – taking it to the tip or donating it – and maybe put some stuff in storage, such as a lovely coffee table we own. However this will be a big thing to think about. Just what will we want to take with us?

Re-establishing My Business

I am quite lucky in the fact that my business is all online so I can work from anywhere. Steve is also training to be an accountant so technically he could do this from anywhere but his knowledge would be of the UK tax system so time differences would have to be considered here.

However, living in a different country, I would want to establish some new contacts where I am so this would mean re-establishing my business to appeal to those clients.

Finances

Finally, the thing we definitely have to think about before we move is the financial side of such a move. It won’t be cheap to move abroad, especially when you think about the stuff we have to move and getting not only us four but the dog over too. I am not too sure yet of the property prices over there but this would obviously have to be factored in too. Hopefully this would be a financial commitment we could manage if we do ever get to move abroad there.

A move to Canada is not set in stone and it is something we have been thinking about for years that might not come into fruition at all. However it is important to know what things we need to consider if we do decide to make that leap.
