Since having Jack, Steve and I have spent separate nights away from him when we’ve been away separately or he’s been staying at his grandparents but in those five and a half years, we’ve only spent one proper night away from him together. He was even with us up until we went to hospital to have Olivia and my in laws came to get him!
Whilst Steve and I don’t plan on going away alone for a night until Olivia is a little bit older, we definitely want to get to spend some alone time together without the kids – just time to see a movie in the cinema, go sightseeing or in my case right now, sleep! Last summer we went to a murder mystery dinner and stay at a B&B down in Dorset whilst Jack went to stay with Steve’s parents – and it was so nice to be Bex and Steve again rather than Mummy and Daddy, just for one night.
However with both our children still being fairly young, we wouldn’t want to go too far. We live in Hertfordshire so a short let apartment in London would be perfect – a staycation, privacy and no need to worry about the children as they will only be a short drive or train ride away with family. Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my kids and as a family but sometimes you just need to identify as someone other than Mummy for just five minutes – whilst I am a mum, that isn’t all I am. I am a fianceĆ©, I am a daughter, I am a friend, I am a blogger, I am a writer. Mummy is just one of the strings to my bow and sometimes I just need some me time – or just some simple time with Steve to actually do something fun that isn’t for the benefit of the kids. Jack loves staying with family so he certainly wouldn’t mind!
As I said, this won’t be happening for months yet but I am thinking of ideas in advance – I want to make sure that Steve and I are also making time for ourselves and that is extremely difficult when you have two children around you 24/7. Where would you suggest for a staycation?
