How To Trick Yourself Into Loving Exercise

Collaborative Post

For most people, exercise is a painful chore that they feel that they have to do to stay in shape. While a lot of people have the fortitude to keep up their gym efforts for a couple of months, very few people manage it for the long haul. It’s just too difficult to force yourself to do something you hate, year after year. Eventually, you give up.

But what if it didn’t have to be that way? What if exercising was something enjoyable, like going to watch a film or eating a slap-up meal?

It might sound impossible, but it turns out that many people have managed it. In fact, there are a few lucky souls out there who love exercise and wouldn’t want to live without it.

Make Exercise Your Opportunity To Unwind

Exercise seems like a chore, but only because we make it one. Most people approach training as something that they have to do to lose weight and tone up. People who stick it out long-term, though, rarely see it in this way. For them, it’s an opportunity to unwind a relax. They’re not thinking about personal bests and losing extra pounds. Instead, they’re focusing on escaping the rest of the day and having 45 minutes to themselves that they can enjoy.

Changing your mindset is easier than you think. Recategorise exercise in a way that appeals to you. Don’t think about it in negative terms. See it as something healthy, natural and relaxing.

Grab A Great Instructor

While you can exercise on your own, it’s always better to have an instructor. Not only do they show you the correct technique, but they also make the process of getting fit a much more enjoyable experience. With a quality instructor by your side, you can feel more motivated than ever before and enjoy the occasion.

Do Exercise That You Like

You don’t have to spend hours on the treadmill to get fit: there are all kinds of ways to incorporate healthy movements in your routine.

Many people choose yoga. It is a low impact activity and a great way for complete beginners to start moving towards their physical ideal. Knowing what to look for in a yoga teacher can be a challenge. But, as we discussed in the previous section, you want someone knowledgeable who can turn exercise from something painful into something more enjoyable.

If it’s your first time to try a new exercise or routine, make sure not to overdo it. To release muscle tension or to relieve pressure from your joints, get yourself some kinesio taping. Whether you’re doing beginner- or expert-level workout, applying this tape can help support your muscles so they do not contract or extend too much.

Attune Yourself To The Mental Benefits Of Exercise

Exercise itself can be a demanding experience, but the people who stick with it often do so because of the profound mental benefits that it offers. These include:

  • Being able to concentrate on tasks better at work
  • Feeling happier in yourself and less depressed
  • Experiencing more confidence in the way your body looks
  • Feeling less tired during the day owing to better health
  • Experiencing fewer food cravings, especially for the wrong type of food
  • Having more energy in the evenings to devote to your family

Loving exercise is challenging, but it’s not impossible. Once you change your mindset and treat yourself more gently, physical activity comes almost naturally.
