A beautiful, serene sky view through your roof windows is always a treat for the eyes and mind until the layers of dust and cobwebs start to conquer them. Then you need to muster up your cleaning spirit to preserve the life and quality of your windows.
But the real question is how and where to start. Here is a brief guide to help you safely clean them.
Air filters
It is essential to clean the foam-like air filters since they have a prime role in catching dust particles. They are lined along the window railings and prevent dust from entering through the open window. All you need to do is remove them carefully and wash them thoroughly. Let them dry before replacing back.
Window Frame
No matter what paint finish you have on your window frames, they all can be cleaned in a similar manner. Just take a microfiber towel or a dry cloth and wipe it along the edges of the frame. If you notice some smudges on it that can’t be easily cleaned off with a cloth, rub over them with a damp cloth.
Inner Window Pane
Take a lint-free, soft cloth or sponge and start to clean the glass interior gently. You may take a window squeegee. Water alone works proficiently to get bright, good-as-new window panes. However, in case you need a shinier surface, grab a glass cleaner, pour two droplets and wipe them off over the pane. Make sure to completely dry your windows to prevent it from spotting.
Outer Window Pane
Most windows come with a convenient 180-degree rotation feature which makes it safe to clean the outer window pane without having to climb on ladders. Simply rotate the window towards inner side and clean. In case of conventional windows, take a long wooden stick or wiper and tie a piece of cloth over its end. Simply rub it over the pane to remove any dust and make it squeaky clean.
Flashing
Rain works best for removing any fallen leaves or debris from your windows. But in areas with low rain frequency, leaves and other debris may surround your windows. It is vital to thoroughly remove them once every year to enjoy a scenic sky view from the comfort of your living room. Just use a hand broom to sweep away the unwanted stuff from around your windows efficiently.
Hinges
Hinges need extra care since they have the tendency to rust over time. If you live near the seaside, your hinges have a greater chance of collecting grime sooner than expected. It is better just to replace your roof windows if they are not opening as smoothly as they should.
Your roof windows are the source of natural lights, serene view, and relaxing vibe for your living space. Keep them cleaned to have a better experience and to extend their longevity. Follow the above instructions to clean your windows at least once in a season thoroughly.
