How to make the most of your staycation

Collaborative Post

With summer approaching and the warmest months of the year soon here for us to enjoy, most of us are looking for the perfect trip where we can get away from the busyness of the 9-5 and have a much needed break. However, while traveling abroad is so difficult at the moment with the restrictions that are still in place in most countries all over the world, many people are opting for a staycation this summer instead.

However,  while many people make the mistake of assuming that a staycation can’t be as fun or enjoyable as a trip abroad, this is just not the case. By planning ahead and scheduling some exciting things to do, you can make a staycation feel just like a trip away. So here are some of our top tips on how to make the most of your staycation.

Plan in advance

If you don’t put a plan in place ahead of your staycation then you will find it a lot harder to make the most of your time off. When you have time off work it can be far too tempting to spend your days lying around the house and occasionally going out to see friends. However nice it may feel to do nothing for a week, you may return to work the following week feeling like you didn’t make the most of your time off.

Therefore, we recommend that you put together a schedule of the things you want to do while you are off, as this will make you much more likely to achieve them.

If you’re planning a campervan staycation somewhere in the UK, it’s good to plan your route in advance. This will ensure the roads you travel on are campervan-friendly and you can plan in any rest breaks. Just remember to take out campervan insurance before you travel and pack all the essentials you need.

Get outside

After so much of our time has been spent indoors over the last 18 months, it is important that you spend your staycation getting out and about and enjoying the summer weather. This might mean going for a walk around the local area or even visiting a picturesque natural trail with a picnic where you can make a day of it. You may even have some beautiful outdoor venues in your local area that you have never had the chance to visit before.

Start a home project

Whether you have been meaning to redecorate your bedroom for ages or have some pieces of furniture that you keep telling yourself you will get round to upcycling, a home project is a great way to make the most of your staycation. These are the sort of jobs that we never have time to do while we are at work, but spending some of your staycation time on these tasks will leave you with a huge sense of achievement by the time you head back to the office.

Learn a new skill

From learning a new language to learning how to play an instrument, many of us would like to find the time to learn a new skill. However, you can make the most of your staycation this summer by heading to Chill Factore and learning how to ski and snowboard. Chill Factore is host to the UK’s longest real snow slope and whether you are a complete novice or are looking to improve your skills, there are lessons and courses available for everyone. Imagine how great it will feel when you go back to work and are able to say that you learned how to ski during your time off?!

With more people opting for a staycation this summer there are so many things that you can do and enjoy all while staying in the UK. Whether you want to immerse yourself in a new experience, or have jobs you want to complete at home, you can have a relaxing, productive, and enjoyable staycation.

  1. I think it is important to plan in advance to make the most of your time off. There is so much more to do this year than there was last year x

I’m looking to get the kids outdoors as much as possible. A picnic is always nice. We plan to go to different parks to do this as they all have different play areas which keeps it fun.

  3. Rhian Westbury says:

I’m a huge fan of planning so I always have things planned for days off and staycations. We’ve been doing home projects pretty much anytime we have time off x

  4. Staycations are something I can’t quite get my head around as someone who works from home! However, starting a project and getting out more can make it feel more like a vacation I think. What a neat article.
