Keeping costs down is incredibly important so that you can maximise your profits. The cost of living has gone up dramatically in recent months too so many of us are seeking ways to keep costs down but profits up. It can be tough, however, to know exactly what to do.

So here are some ways you can keep costs down when self employed.

Hire An Accountant

Whilst there is an outlay for hiring an accountant, doing so can actually save you money in the long run. Accountants are well learned in the topic of taxes and know what expenses you can claim for and how you can maximise profits whilst keeping costs down. Choose a recommended accountant for sole trader to ensure you are using someone who is completely knowledgeable about your needs.

It is important that you are claiming all of your expenses and an accountant can help you with this.

Get Good Utility Deals

Whether you use them solely for business use or you use them for some personal use too, you should try and get a great utility deal. Do some research and compare quotes of phone plans, internet plans and even water and energy.

You are able to claim a percentage of them for expenses if not used solely for business or you can claim the majority of them if they are.

Be Insured

Again, insurance is another outlay like an accountant but it certainly can keep your costs down in the long run. Every business should have insurance because the costs of not having it could be lethal. Mistakes can be made – even if you didn’t mean to – and it is important you have insurance and/or legal coverage to help you in your time of need.

Make sure you have the right cover in place so that your policy completely covers you. As standard, you should have public liability insurance and professional indemnity cover – but you may want to choose more coverage than that!

Be Rewarded For Being Loyal

Being loyal can be very beneficial, especially when it comes to business. Utilising these loyalty schemes can certainly help you to keep your costs down. If you absolutely have to use specific software or businesses, see if they can offer you a deal for sticking with them. Or switch to those that do reward people and business for staying loyal to them.

These are just a few ways that you can keep your costs down. With the cost of living continuing to go up and no end in sight, at least for now, then it is important that all businesses, self employed people and people in general get their costs down as much as they can so they can weather the storm.
