Have you ever suffered from blogger burnout? I certainly have. I seem to have bypassed it so far this year but last year I suffered it massively. Trying to juggle a family life with a young son, a freelance career and three different blogs plus being admin of various blogger groups meant something had to give and I’m sorry to say blogging took a direct hit. I needed a break. I had no inspiration.
I needed time spent with my family – even if we ended up doing nothing but laze on the sofa, curled up together watching films. I needed that time. I needed to focus on my family and my freelancing and give blogging a break – in short, I was burned out. I had nothing to write about, I wasn’t happy with my content. Way back then – months before 2014 ended – I decided I wanted to shake things up around here.
First thing to come along was the new design, courtesy of Yaya. I happened to win it in her giveaway although I would have happily paid for it. Then I slowly started to drift away from certain content and start writing things I really wanted to. You may have seen less parenting posts and less review posts recently – and that is a conscious decision I made. When deciding on a blog design with Yaya, I explained what I wanted and she just got it. I wanted to show that I was more than just a mum – I am a mum but that isn’t all I am. She got it spot on. I wanted to write about life in general, flashback posts, more food posts, more posts about my work. I wanted to link up to various linkys who focus on a specific theme – mainly photography as that is something I want to improve on this year. I wanted to talk more about my local area and about my home. I also wanted to post more regularly on my other blog Keene On Saving. My book blog has had to take a back seat for now but there are many contributors to that blog so I am sure it will keep ticking over.
Why am I sharing this today? I don’t know. Perhaps because I know we all suffer blogger burnout at times. When it happens, take a step back and evaluate. Are you simply exhausted or is there something else – are you a little unhappy or disillusioned with the content you are putting out there? Take some time to yourself and work out what you want to do with your blog and how you want to move forward. Then maybe the burnout will cease. I’ve never had so many ideas before, I’ve never had such a solid content plan. I currently have three weeks worth of post ideas written into my planner for certain dates and have certain days in the week where I schedule a weeks worth or more of posts (unless they are time sensitive).
My blogger burnout helped me to see where I wanted to go with this blog and also helped me become happier and more organised with my content. If you are currently suffering from burnout, maybe it is time for you to take some time out and focus on what you really want to achieve with your blog.Linking up with Honest Mum for Brilliant Blog Posts

I think blogger burnout can happen so easily. It's always good at times like that to step back and re-evaulate what you want out of your blog.
Definitely!
It is so easy to just get that burnout feeling, I have learned that having a weekend of usually helps that is why i have my weekends for family and relaxing time , I make plenty of notes and ideas so i never seem to feel like i have nothing to write about , some dont even write posts , just posting a picture of your scente through your window seems to get peoples attention , always someone chatting about the weather lol x
I definitely try to have weekends off if I can 🙂
I think it's also important to note that as bloggers we always have a running to do list of things to post on our blogs, social media, etc. It becomes a daunting list that is difficult to keep up with! When I start facing burnout, I remind myself to just take it one task at a time! I like that you use this time to rediscover what you want out of your blog and use the time to also improve the content, design ,etc!!
This is so true, I often feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff I need to do x
Living this RIGHT NOW!! It's not that I don't have time or ideas, I just seem to have lost 'it' and the content just isn't getting published! I don't have anywhere near as many commitments as you clearly do so I'm really not sure what the deal is… but I do feel a bit beaten by it all!! Thanks for sharing 🙂 xx
I have this right now. I have taken a step back. I WANT to get back into it and I know I NEED the time away to re evaluate and clear my mind. Ideas are coming already!
I know what you're saying, I'm also so super busy at the moment that I feel a bit pulled in many directions but I've found that I post when I can and that's it and it's the only way I can reconcile it. My blog is a hobby and I write it because I enjoy it but I try not to let it take over when I feel stressed.

I love this, I think a change somehow really does help – I can pin point various stages of my blogs life where I've felt like this and done something to almost relaunch the blog and relight my passion for it. I was going to say relight my fire then, but I just couldn't do it!

I often run out of things to write about and worry about blogging in general but like you I had a re-design and renamed my blog and felt much better about everything. Another thing that's helped is having an organiser so I can see the things I need to do. Great post. xx #BrilliantBlogPosts
Blogger Burn out can happen so easily for sure. I always try and ensure I have some posts written as back up posts so I can re-charge and relax x
I think we all suffer blogger burnout at some point. I’ve really felt it this week. I have a guest staying and my husband is recovering from surgery so I’ve had to look after the kids alone. I haven’t had the chance to promote like normal and my views have suffered. However, things are calming down a bit now.
I get times when I feel a little burnt out too! I usually take some time off, even if only for a few days, and remind myself of all the reasons why I love blogging x
I often feel the burnout always in December….There is just too much going on. I tend to step back a bit and try to get a lot of posts scheduled before December starts so I can relax a little.
I have the one blog and the one child and suffer from blogger burnout from time to time! You have loads more to deal with than me- I don’t really have an excuse! lol x
Blogger burnout happens to us all but it means that our blog will be better after its process of renewal.
I think it can be hard work blogging and a break is a good thing, helps you to get your mojo back! You are juggling so many balls it’s incredible!
I have had a bit of blogger burnout recently. It is one of biggest sources of income other than my freelance work but I get to the point where I take on too many projects at once and it can get very overwhelming. I’m trying to get to a place where I have a good balance of paid vs my own content because it is then that I really enjoy blogging. It’s just so hard to turn down work but lately I am enjoying saying no for a change! Great post x
I don’t know if I get blogger burnout I totally get times when I can’t be bothered and my health is taking over, but I’m not sure if that’s one and the same or two different things. x
This has happened to me quite a lot recently! I find that having a break really works.
I have felt this before. My blogging took a back seat for several months before it gradually built up again.
I haven’t been hit by full on burn-out yet, but I have had times when I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed. I’m hoping that reading great advice in posts like this will help me get through it more easily when it does happen
Aww thats soo helpful! I have shared with friend I hope you dont mind!
Taking a break and stepping away from it all works for me… sometimes there is just too much happening and it is hard to keep up with it all… breaks work wonders 😉
I think this must be so common – I have started a second blog at least twice and just can’t do both! Great post – and great blog 🙂 Kaz x
I know of many bloggers (including myself) who have suffered exactly as you have over the last year. Taking a break to plan and have a bit of a spruce up always seems to help x
