While you may have put a lot of thought into your own bedroom or those for your children, it can also be helpful to think about some of the communal spaces in your home. The living room can be quite an important place for people to congregate, relax, and generally spend time with one another. There are a few ways you can make this room feel cosier without having to spend a large sum of money, or completely redecorate.
When you consider that the living room might be one of the most frequently used areas of the home, it can quickly become apparent why you should invest a bit of time in improving the way it looks. One of the easiest ways you may be able to achieve this could be through putting artwork up on the walls, or even on horizontal surfaces. Ordering some high quality canvas prints of your own family photos may not only help your loved ones to feel more welcome, but it may also be rather endearing for guests.
The canvas effect of the prints could also appear as quite contemporary, which may allow them to be brought into conversation. When your household sees that your images together are featured on the wall, this may make them feel loved and wanted, exactly the effect you were hoping for.

The type of lighting you use in the room can also make a big difference regarding how welcoming it feels. Cooler lighting can be great if you need to be able to see clearly, but it might have a more clinical feel. On the contrary, warm lighting can feel much more subdued and intimate, yet might not give enough light for certain tasks. In a living room, you might want to consider having a cool white for the main lightbulbs and then opt for warmer tones in any lamps. This way you can make sure that people can see properly if needed but, for a cosier and more relaxed environment, people still have the option for lighting that suits their needs.
While the living room might be used for casual sitting and conversation, sometimes it can be nice to snuggle up as a family to watch movies, or simply enjoy each other’s company. Particularly in winter, you may find that the room is more welcoming if you provide the means for people to get suitably comfortable. This could include a variety of cushions and throw blankets that will enable them to relax and feel cosier. Having a storage solution to put them into can help to prevent the room from looking messy and cluttered when they are not in use.
One thing to consider is that it isn’t always about the décor. Sometimes, the way you use a room can also be important. Keeping floors and surfaces clean and tidy, and spending quality time together in the room, could make you all find it a welcoming and enjoyable place to be.
