From the food and entertainment to the shopping and sheer beauty of the oceans and the architecture, Sicily is the travel destinations. There’s plenty to do whether you are a bachelor or a family of five. A small country situated in the heart of Europe, both accessible and remote. The culture draws millions of tourists from all walks of life.
Taormina in particular is an ideal location for families with children. The friendly locals provide an atmosphere that is free from the snobbery usually reserved in exclusive resort towns. The sea provides ample opportunity for the little ones to play in the sand and soak up the sun, while the bustling village comes alive at night. Strolling along the cobble stone streets, stopping to watch street performers and shop displays is a perfect end of the night treat.
Travelling to Taormina from England is simple. The easiest way is to fly into Catania, Sicily and take a one-hour train ride to Taormina center (ideal for seeing the other close-by attractions like the Giardini Naxos). Villas in Taormina are oftentimes the most economical route, especially when traveling with the whole family. They provide easy access to the sites while also offering privacy and self-catering (something that can save a lot of money on restaurants with the whole family).
Once at a restaurant, though, parents will have no problem finding food for their kids in Italy. While there are Michelin starred restaurants available, most restaurants cater to the ‘bambinos’ with endless amounts of pizza and pasta- a childhood dream. And to top it all off, there is no shortage of delicious gelato to put a smile on their faces.
If you are looking for something slightly more educational, Taormina offers more than its fair share of historical venues. Since Taormina has been occupied since 800 BC by the hands of Sicels, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, French, Spanish, and Italians, there is plenty to see in the way of history. The Greek Theater ruins are a great detour to take the kids to. They will literally be walking the footsteps of history.
Sicily boasts some of the most amazing sights in the world. People rightfully flock by the planeload yearly. Taking the family is sure to be the trip of a lifetime.
