This isn’t introducing you, the reader, to graphic novels – but rather myself. Plenty of my friends read them and rave about them. Booktubers and book bloggers mention them constantly. Yet I’d never really seen the appeal…until now.
I recently picked up a few – one was recommended by a friend, one was calling my name because of the story it was based on and another seemed too good to pass by.
I picked up:
I picked up Necessary Evils by Emma Flint after I was recommended it by a friend on Facebook. It was okay but I’m not sure the subject matter was really me. I think crime style graphic novels are probably where my heart lies right now.
Finally, I picked up The Fade Out: Act One by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. I absolutely adored this. Set in 1940’s Hollywood with the murder of a Hollywood actress taking centre stage in the plot, Charlie is confused as to why it is being passed of as suicide. After all, he woke up next to the body – and got out of there fast! What exactly had she got herself into? Is Charlie now in danger himself? This was so interesting and since they left it on a cliffhanger I am hoping they release some more.
These are my first introductions into graphic novels and I am already considering picking up Saga as it seems like such a well loved series. Do you read graphic novels? Any ones that you’d suggest in particular?
