Being A Good Friend When You Don’t Live Close By

Whilst I have a few friends who live close by, I have to admit that a lot of friends fell by the wayside when I had children – whether that was because of me or them, I don’t necessarily know. However since I started blogging I’ve got to know many different people who live all over the UK, some even across the Atlantic in the US. I’ve met the majority of them and would count them as some of my closest friends – but how can you be a good friend when you don’t always live close by?

Be Available

I currently have multiple group chats open in Facebook Messenger and on Whatsapp. I like to be as available as possible for my friends in case they need me. Working from home means I am usually available most of the time – except for sleeping, of course! Being available means that friends can talk to me whenever they need to, no matter if it is day or night. This means friends who live further away can always get in contact with me.

Show You Care

It may seem crazy but Sarah from Life In A BreakDown and I still  haven’t met – yet we’ve known each other almost six years and I would call her one of my best friends. She’s been there for me through some of the darkest times of my life and some of the happiest – she was one of the first people I told when I got engaged and when I had Olivia (we only became friends when Jack was a month old!) and she was also one of the first people to learn of my missed miscarriage and when my father passed away. I like to show I care and send gifts to her on her birthday and Christmas but postage costs can be a nightmare with her living across the country. I use Parcel2Go as it is a great resource when sending parcels to friends further afield – I would definitely recommend!

Support Them

I like to support my friends in whatever they do. I will champion any new venture, join them on their journey and really push them to achieve the greatness I know they have within them. It doesn’t matter if you are next door to each other or live across the world from each other – supporting friends is one of the main points of friendship and I love to help my friends achieve whatever they mean to.

How do you strive to be a good friend to your friends when they don’t live all that close?
