With mine, Steve’s, his Dad’s and my Mum’s birthdays and Valentines Day over now, I have time to relax before thinking about gift ideas for close family members again. We do have Mother’s Day next month where I will be purchasing for my Mum, Steve will be purchasing for his and he will be helping Jack buy mine but other than that, I’ve got a good few months until I need to worry about anything else…that is until Father’s Day.
Both our Dads always say they don’t want anything but we know they would secretly be disappointed if we didn’t get anything. This year, instead of the usual real ale and socks that we usually lean towards, I want to spend the months leading up to it planning for a different present this year. Whether we can pull it off, who knows? I can but try.
Our mums are easy to buy for – they love flowers, chocolates, vouchers and being taken out for a meal – or even the odd sentimental thing. But our fathers are notoriously hard to buy for without buying the same old, same old thing.
Steve’s dad is very much into his golf and my Dad is a keen gardener so it seems apt to consider something for them, gift wise. It is hard to gauge what they would need or want but I am considering looking at some storage facilities for my Dad’s garden and all his plants and seeds – perhaps look at some affordable greenhouses or storage boxes for his pots that he isn’t currently using. When it comes to Steve’s Dad, perhaps a round of golf at one of the most prestigious courses round here – but not just for him and Steve, get some of the other family over for a real family event. I am still baffled as to what to get Steve from Jack but I will be thinking hard over the next few weeks to get prepared in advance.
I’m not just thinking about getting organised in my gift giving for our Dads this year either. I am already putting things aside for Jack’s birthday and Christmas. With both of them falling in December and him growing bigger and understanding and wanting more, I am having to start earlier and earlier every year. I am taking advantage of deals I see and even entering competitions for things, putting prize wins away until December.
Do you have any plans for your gift giving this year? What are you planning to do?
